My tower wont power up. When i turn on the computer the red power light comes on however nothing comes up on the screen. The fan is working & it also sounds like the computer is working. Then the red light goes off & also the light on the mouse. Before this started to happen my computer started to freeze when i was in the middle of something. Please help.

My guess is that either your power supply unit (PSU) or motherboard is in trouble. But we need more information about what system you're running. Have a look at the announcement at the top of the thread listings for this group or go to <http://forum.majorgeeks.com/announcement.php?f=22> -- especially the fourth paragraph. Without the information requested in that paragraph, we're all just guessing -- and you have no way of knowing who's guessing right and who's going to get you into more trouble.

    Some additional information would help:
    • Does your monitor come out of suspend mode when you start the computer?
    • Do you hear any beeps during the boot process? If so, how many, and are they long or short?
    • Do the fans continue to spin when the red power indicator and the mouse LED go out?

I note that you referred to "fan" in the singular. Unless your machine is positively ancient, it would have at least two, or maybe three, fans*. Are they all spinning? Do they continue to spin when the power LED goes out?

(* I'd expect that you have at least one fan in your PSU, one on the heatsink on the processor chip, and probably a third exhaust fan at the back near the processor chip. Pay particular attention to the fan in the PSU and the one on the CPU heatsink. If either fan has seized, your PSU or CPU may be overheating and shutting down to prevent damage to itself and your motherboard.)

Hi Rob. Thankyou for your quick response to my computer problem. In reply to your questions: No the computer did not come out of suspend mode. When the computer was turned on yes it did give one beep. All of the fans were working. Since i sent my 1st msge, i left the computer turned off. When i turned it on it was fine, i restored it to an earlier time when it was working fine & since then i haven't had a problem. Its got me baffled. At least its working........for now. Cheers from sunny Australia.
