Tracking Hackers

How do you track a hacker......I'm watching my fav site get hacked right now......and, I can't do a thing about it!! Or is tracking a hacker illeagle as well??

 

It can be done, and done well. If you know how, you can really ruin their day.

Someone else here, perhaps one of the mods can give you more info on what to do.

Alright, well PLEASE someone tell me something, this hacker looks like he's trying to come for keeps. I'll be keeping an eye out for replies, I'll do what I have to.

 

it would be very difficult as a bystander. You need to contact the owner of the site which is compromised and he/she should contact the authorities and their host (if applicable).

 

He is hacked, he probably can't get on his computer, and I don't know him personally. -.- But thanks for the suggestion...

 

That doesn't make any sense. If his site was hacked , what would that have to do with his personal machine. Any way, I would think he'd be aware of his site being compromised already.. wouldn't you?

 

Ok, here's the thing- A few days ago, we were spammed by some dude who was angry at the site, so the guy banned him. Now, he's probably trying to get back at him for ruining his fun by hacking his computer and trashing his site.

 

Well, thats perfectly lame. Stupid script kiddies.

I assume that the owner of the website knows about this, and he can take the action that he needs to, in his own time.

If I were him, I would check the access logs and look up the IPs/hostnames of suspicious entires. You can then trace that back to the ISP and make a formal complaint.

 

So there's nothing I can do? >.< If only I learned how to hack, I'd show that little....! Ahem....well, I guess I'll just have to wait it out, and hope for the best...

 

Why stoop to his level of stupidity.. he'd beat you on experience. Be the better man. Let him hack and sue his ass blind afterwards.

 

Ah, It doesn't matter, I -don't- know how to hack. But still, well, I'll just hope for the best, thanks for the support....kind of. :-D
