Transfer Hi8 to my new Laptop.

What do I need to transfer my old Hi8 tapes from my camcorder to my laptop to make the videos digital? I want to be able to edit the video, but will probably use Windows Movie Maker to do so. I would also like to transfer my old VHS to digital form as well but I'm assuming whatever I get for the camcorder will work with the VCR as well since that has RCA jacks too.

Here is what I have:

A brand new Toshiba Laptop with Windows 7.

What type of Hi8 camcorder do you have?

I use my camcorder via mini DVI out to the mini DVI in to transfer my "movies"

You will also need to update Win7 with Windows Live Essentials. There is a small learning curve between Windows Movie Maker and Windows Live Essentials Movie Maker.

 

I am a bit lost. What kind of connection is the mini-DVI? As I stated, I only have RCA and S-Video on the camcorder. And I thought mini-DVI was only for macs? Sorry, I am a little slow when it comes to a lot of this stuff.

Sorry to confuse you but I was explaining what I have and not you. When you tell us about the make and model, it becomes a little easier to troubleshoot your question.

Here is your camcorder manual: http://www.docs.sony.com/release/CCDTRV65.pdf Page 55 tells you how to get your camcorder to display on your TV. We can take those pages and obtain an adapter that will help get what you need to have done. You will need an adapter like this: http://www.compusa.com/applications...FISHUSA&cm_mmc_o=2mHCjC3wkkYubltCjCVqHCjCdwwp and put the RCA cables that you currently have with the camera to use from the camcorder to this adapter. The other end of the adapter will be plugged into your USB slot on your computer.
