    Hey all,
First time here. Great stuff! My problem: I use my PC windows XP 64 bit for editing MPG video and then send it by data cable to a xps1210 running Vista 32bit for using on the road. Some video files have worked on occasion. Now, however, and it seems like always, when I view it on Windows Media Player on the laptop, Audio loses sync with video. And if I click the seek button the video just freezes forever. Also, on a video that is 44 min long, the blue bar is filled to the end and the movie is only like on the 23rd minute but will continue playing(if I don't click seek)right to the end of the movie. And now, it also happens on my main XP. Can someone tell me what the problem is and maybe how to solve it?
    Thanks.
    Season's Greetings & Cheers!

Out of curiousity.... if you burn the video to CD and then try to play it back on the laptop, what happens? Have you tried a different media player? Maybe VLC or GOM or Media Player Classic?

I actually got the data cable since my PC XP burner stopped working. I figured I would use the laptop for burning. And then. Well that leads to another problem. According to my laptop, it states that the DVD drive is: HL-DT-ST DVD+-RW GSA-T11N ATA Device. I'm using Memorex DVD+RW brand new disk. In Windows DVD maker, when I tried to burn a troublesome mpeg (please note correction as I originally wrote MPG) it causes the program to lock. When I tried to load a wmv, it loaded and started burning disk until about 70%. Message then came up: Windows DVD Maker cannot finish burning the project using this disc because an error occured while writing to the disc. Please insert another blank or rewritable disc, and then try again. I went into my DVD properties and it says: HL-DT-ST DVD+-RW GSA-T11N ATA Device Type:DVD/CD-Rom drives.
So to make a long story short, lol, I can't answer your question. Sure wish I could. Any other suggestions?
    Thanks

Note:I tried playing an mpeg file on the PC with XP and it worked perfectly. I tried a different one and had problems with it. I then went back to the one that worked perfectly, and now it has the problem.

Same problem with all players. Media Direct & Windows media center. If I don't click anything, it will play to the end. Also, When I use Windows Movie Maker, it will load for editing but when I seek it freezes up. Only the troublesome ones. Good ones work fine.

Also, I went into add remove programs and see that I have one named Windows Media Format 11 runtime (11.16MB) and another named Windows Media Player 11(11.16MB).
    Could this be the culprit?

I think I should also mention (redfaced....yeah, I did) that when I first received my laptop, I accidently moved all of my PC XP (C:) onto C: of my laptop. Instead of putting it in a document in Laptop C, I actually put it right on the C. I did reload vista on the laptop. Did I really mess up? Is it fixable?
    Thanks.

Uninstalling and reinstalling WMP11 might help. It certainly can't hurt. What about a different media player? Have you tried one of the players I listed in a post above? I think the problem is related to your encoding and decoding of the video files; I don't think the different versions of Windows on the different PC's have anything to do with it. I could be wrong though. Other than reinstalling WMP, and/or trying a different media player, I don't really have nay suggestions other than to maybe run some hardware diagnostics: your RAM and hard drive should be thouroughly tested on BOTH computers. Check your hard drive maker's web site(s) for the diagnostic; it's a free download. For a RAM diagnostic, go to the Memory section here at MajorGeeks and look around. I like this one: http://www.majorgeeks.com/Microsoft_Windows_Memory_Diagnostic_d3955.html You can create a bootbale CD or floppy disk. Boot to it and select T for the extended tests and run at least 3-4 passes. It will take some time so be patient. In the meantime, hopefully someone else will come along and shed more light on this for you....

    :D Happy Holidays! :D

dlb, Awesome Player! Now that's a Playa! Thanks for all your input. Having such a great time with this thing, haven't tried uninstalling anything yet. I'll follow up after I've tried all of your suggestions.
    Cheers and Season's Greetings!
