I'm about to get a huge refund check (possibly) from financial aid at my college because somebody gave me way too much money and I told them to send me the excess. I now have the option to build another PC or upgrade my current one, I don't know what I'm gonna do. In either case if I do get a second PC how would I transfer huge amounts of data from this PC to another I'm talking at least 30-40 Gigs of info. Or would it be better to upgrade this one and slap a external USB hard drive into this one. My computer is a Compaq Presario SR5030NX with Vista (which I hate with a passion.) CPU: Intel Pentium 4 3.20 GHz GPU: Intel 82945G Express Chipset Family RAM: 1028 (as reported by Compaq though Vista only reads 1015) HDD: 160 GB with less then 10 G free. Sound: Realtek High Defnition Audio and I plan on doing alot of gaming. I know I need to add at least another Gig of RAM. This is just the basic info also how do I figure out how much Watts my computer components are using from my power supply and how much is left. I figure if I add new components (second gig of RAM and second HDD) it would require additional power.

The easiest way to transfer very large amounts of data from one unit to another is probably a USB external hard drive.
They are fairly inexpensive (I recently purchased a 500Gb Maxtor for just under $100). Most of these (if not all) need no special setup or drivers; just plug them in and go.

If you do go with a build. IMHO, barebones sytem, then add to it as you can. I get the tower, motherboard, powersupply and cpu all preinstalled. That way powersupply, motherboard, cpu is there problem if it goes bad.

IMHO cpusolutions.com is the place I get mine. I just build my new one about a year ago. Just a heads up. Intel is getting to change there cpu's by end of year. There doing a major overhaul. "nehalem" is the name to use in google. It will give you all the info. So not sure how big of geek you are. But really your own custom built pc. Now thats just cool. Love mine.
