I got a new XP system and I want to put my email folders/messages and email list onto the new system from off the old. the USB port is messed up so I cannot use the flash drive and must put it all on to a CD... where in XP do I go to find the folders with my saved Email in them and how do I make a list to down load into the new system from off the old? They are in two different rooms and I cannot with my physical abilities at this time do a system to system hookup...

It doesn't bother me to do multi disk backups from the old system. It is a good thing to have anyway. the new system has an extra harddrive to use as a back up and I know how to install it into another system if I had to...but I only want to right now just get my email transferred over...

This may look long and complicated but it's not that bad.

    In Outlook Express:

1 Select File on the toolbar; from the pulldown select Folder
2 From the resulting menu select Compact All Folders
3 This action will compact all of your e-mail folders and saved them
    in C:\Documents and Settings\<your user name>\ \ \ \
4 The compacted files are buried pretty deep so the easiest way to find
them is to do a search.
    5 Close Outlook Express
6 Select Start on the taskbar and then Search
7 Select All Files and Folders
8 In the box labeled "All or part of the file name:" enter *.dbx
9 In the box labeled "Look in:" select Local Disk C: then click the search button.
10 The search should find the compacted e-mail folders for all of the users of that computer.
11 Copy the e-mail folders to a temporary directory which is easier to remember and manage. You can now burn them to CD or DVD.
12 Now you can transfer the files to your new computer.
13 Open Outlook Express on the new computer
14 Select File on the toolbar; from the pulldown select Import
15 From the resulting menu select Messages
16 Select Microsoft Outlook Express 6 then click Next button
17 Select Import mail from an OE6 store directory
18 Select Browse to locate the directory on the CD which contains the e-mail folders you brought over from the old computer
19 After you find the directory on the CD, select All Folders then click Next button
20 The folders should be imported

Good Luck and let us know the results

Finally getting back at ya... I did all as you said and it worked!...but I would add one step... atleast for me. copy the contents of the CD with the emails onto the desk top and then find it there to import it. For some reason it would not read it from the CD but after the copying to the HD it worked...now if only transferring my addresses was as easy...that is something I have not figured out yet... I tried making a copy of the WAB file but I found out long ago, it just shows what you have on the computer you are one, REGARDLESS of what was on the computer you took it off of...so that did not work...

thanks for the help here...it took 3 CDs to copy all the emails I had saved...I know I need to clean some of them out but that is time consuming and right now I don't have that kind of time....:)
