Transferring Files-->Another Computer (One Monitor)

    I am trying to transfer files from a Compaq Presario to a Dell Desktop. Both use Windows XP. I went to Radio Shack and they gave me a 'crossover cable'. The only place for me to plug this cable into is the ETHERNET port in the back.

    Now what? Only one computer (the Presario with all the files I want) has a monitor. I basically just need to transfer files from the Presario to my hard drive on the Dell (the one without a monitor).

    How do I do this? Was I given the wrong cable? Please note I cannot be online while completing this process since I am using the ETHERNET port and hooking up the computer I will be "dumping" files/programs onto to a monitor is NOT an option.

    Can get a little gizmo that allows one mouse, one keyboard and one monitor to be used for two computers ...hit a key to switch back and forth ...wish I could remember the name of it ...radio shack, computer stores maybe even Wal-mart should have it.

    Its a KVM timw, and it would work yes, but can't you just temp borrow a second monitor from someone, cheaper and just as easy.

    I am currently using a LinksKey 2-port Super Mini Desktop KVM Switch which allows me to toggle back and forth between 2 PC's with my NEC monitor attached to both and with mouse and keybaord working for both. Pretty slick. It works great.
