    Hi,

I have an old P4 destop that only has a cd burner and I would like to transfer some movie files and such to my new laptop. I tried to setup a network and did not have success at all. Hence, I would like to just transfer files like treating my laptop as a flashdrive or extra hard drive.

Question: How do I set this up- do I go and purchase a usb to usb connector and the is all I need to do and then I can transfer files to my new computer? Also my desktop has the old 1.1 usb ports.

    Thank you,

If the P4 is XP then you can use the Files And Settings Transfer Wizard.

    Start>All Programs>Accessories>System Tools>Files And Settings Transfer Wizard

Basically I beleive that I made a new home network called network10 but when I go to the Files And Settings Transfer Wizard on the desktop it can not locate my new computer...do not understand why.

Okay, I have found the desktop computer on my home network now, but...I am having issues sharing files from my desktop to laptop. I went to my old desktop and right-clicked the folder that I wanted to share and changed the security options to allowing sharing but I cannot see that folder on my laptop. Not sure how to share properly.

Have atleast one exact same user accounts on both machines ....log into the newly establiched account (which ever machine you set it up on) at least once .....see if you can transfer then.

Thanks, everyone. Got the file sharing all figured out and it now works and I can finally transfer files from my old desktop to the laptop. Now I have a different issue in regards to playing on media player but I will address that in the appropriate forum.
