If I were to burn the entire directory for a program, such as Ad-Aware, and put it in the program directory on another computer, would it still work?

It might work for some small programs, but for the large majority, no it won't. Most modern software installs many files (mostly DLLs, but many others as well) in folders in your computer other than where the main program resides.
Not to mention, even if you copied every file into the proper locations, there's still the problem of adding the proper entries into the Windows registry.
Do yourself a favour & keep all of the zipped & install files you download saved somewhere, so you can easily re-install them later, or install them to a different computer.

Agree with Wavetar, best way is to download it and burn it to a CD, or transfer it to a USB memory stick. If it is really small you could copy it to a floppy if both PC's have one.

Easiest solution, as you know, is to download it to the PC you want to install it on and install from there.

As Wavetar suggests, I keep all my downloads in original format in My Downloads folder. Every 6 months I transfer them to a PC-Downloads folder that has sub-folders for each 6 monthly calendar block. I find I still sometimes have to go back to previous years for something. Bazza
