hello folks- here's my latest crazy idea. Its a portable desktop/bigf***ing laptop. It is to have a 17 in monitor, and a flip down keybard.

    specs:
    micro atx mobo
    q6600
    4 gb ddr2 ram
    30 gb raptor boot drive
    500 gb storage drive
    2 dvd burners
    6 120mm fans
    Geforce 8800 or possibly a 9600
    here's the wishlist: https://secure.newegg.com/NewVersion/Wishlist/PublicWishDetail.asp?WishListNumber=6001234&WishListTitle=traportazoid

    here are the sketches:

The top shows a possible closed design.
    Then an open keyboard
    Back of the box
    Open monitor/keyboard

I'm not quite sure if i want the entire front to fold down (exposing fans, etc behind it) or jst a keyboard.
I'm going to use a micro-atx mobo. The trick will be getting a 8800 to fit in it, maybe i can find a low profile one. I also want to use a quad, so fitting a decent cooler might be tricky

    wouldn't it be a little big to lug around w/ 6 120mm fans and a 9600??

otherwise it sounds really cool though

how are you going to give it power???? i see no psu!

i saw something very similar to this once, only it was a briefcase converted into a laptopdesktop.

i think i may have to go with either dual 120's or triple 80's instead. I'm still looking into a power supply, ideally it'd have a kickass battery, but i may jst end up putting a normal psu in it.

you might want to check out this website:

    http://www.mini-itx.com/

if you were to use a mini itx mobo and a mini itx psu, it would reduce the size a lot

i looked into it when i was planning- but wasn't satisfied with any processor.
