    I have a Dell 1720 with Vista
    Micro Trend PC-Cillin 14
    I have tried the following...Windows Explorer..Micro Trend folder...Remove.
    ...Program files...Micro Trend folder...Uninstall folder...uninstall.
    ...Windows uninstall tools.
All seemed to be doing what was asked but when finnished PC-Cillin was still there.

    Hi

Moved your post to a new thread as other was talking about a very different application to yours PC Tools Antivirus vs your Trend PC-Cillin and removal steps "could" be different.

Have you tried firstly removing Trend from Add/Remove or Control Panel > Uninstall a Program in Vista? as if you dont go this route you will have a hard time installing a new Antivirus as old files can cause conflicts between applications.

    Or This http://esupport.trendmicro.com/support/viewxml.do?ContentID=1036063

Could also try Revo Uninstaller which is free

then when uninstalled run the Trend Cleanup tool

Be sure, by looking in Task Manager that no PC-Cillin process is running while you are trying to remove it.

are you getting any specific error messages when you try to uninstall that would help us to help you? It's most odd that none of the aboe methods have helped and I'm very surprised Revo uninstaller didn't do the trick.

anyway...just realised, this thread is John Pringle's...anyone else needs to make a fresh thread of their own as it isn't considered polite, and also confuses things for the OP. Thanks ;)

  9. If you have never reinstalled windows and wiped the HD completly clean then you will never get rid of Trend Micro! it will always be on yout disk . Trust me,I've used the F12 or F12 button ALOT. And the only way to rid yourself of it is to do a COMPLETE REINSTAL of Windows!

    Hi

Before the way too drastic step of re-installing Windows, try booting into Safe Mode (F8 at boot) and then try Add/Remove to uninstall Trend, or Revo, theory behind this is its possible for running services from Trend to be blocking the un-installation of this app, in safe mode many services that are not MSFT ones dont run.

But info like which version of Trend is being used and what error messages if any are being shown if the uninstall is not sucessful will hep diagnose this?

  11. I know reinstalling windows is a somewhat drastic "fix" for the problem. But if it came PRE-INSTALLED on your computer from Dell, Trend Micro will always be somewhere on the disk. And running! it is on the "restore partition" of your HD that Dell has installed from the factory. In therory you SHPULD be able to uninstall it from your hard drive but some parts NEVER removed.Like I said I used the Dell reformat partition MANY, MANY times and somewhere..someway Trend Always survives! ( I do lots of tweaks and test a lot of software on XP).And I see you haven't posted any updates yet? Did some of the other suggestions work?

    WOW:

Finally figured this out. Tried all the tips and tricks associated with annoying uninstallable software. As a final thought, I went to services and disabled any trend micro products. I was than able to successfully uninstall the program using the windows uninstall (go figure).
