    Hello

I have a question for y’all; I have a friend and am trying to figure out the best way to accomplish this task.
Her Aunt recently passed away and left her laptop to her( a 6 month old Toshiba Satellite running Windows 10 and my friend does not know the pass word. I have the Windows 10 installation USB but my issue a first is:
I am new to playing with Windows 10 and my usual tricks ( going through outside with a password reset will not work; the laptop I can to go F12 and find the selection; but then will not even launch any CD nor USB from the boot selector, goes automatically to the user logo selection, so I cannot Launch the Windows Install disk or USB to try and reset the User Password.
    Any ideas?

Is there data or information on the laptop you have to retrive?
Or do you just want to use the laptop and don't care what is on it?

Data does not matter; I have a dos disk and tried to run it to formatt the harddrive to the MBR and replace with Windows 7 but the laptop would not even launch the DOS disk.

Sounds like this laptop has a UEFI motherboard and a GPT format disk, which is why you can only boot to the Windows logon. It's Microsoft's idea of protecting you  In order to be able to boot to anything other than the hard disk you will need to get into the UEFI BIOS and try to disable secure boot and set legacy mode. ATM I can't give you any specifics on that as I'm not familiar with that machine and each manufacturer designs its own UEFI interface, but it will be by immediately pressing a F key or Delete on power up. I'll have a look around later but hopefully in the meantime someone else familiar with Satellites can give you specific guidance.

This page should help. It's for 8.1 but should also apply to 10.
