    Hi. I am about ready to give up over a trojan virus that I can't seem to get rid of. About 2 weeks ago I had the internet security 2011 malware show up. I managed to get rid of it but I have had various small problems since. I was having problems with web searches getting redirected but that is under control now after going through your guide for Google redirects. The problem I am continuing to have is with Trojan viruses that my antivirus (AVG antivirus) is finding. I went through your READ ME malware removal guide last nite and when it was done I reinstalled AVG and when it ran an initial scan, it found Trojan horse js/xul cache.a. I also reran Malwarebytes and it too found Trojan virus problems. I am attaching to logs from the work I did last nite. Maybe you can figure something out from it. Thanks for your help.

    Please disable all anti-virus and anti-spyware programs while we do the following (re-enable when you are finished):

    Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator). This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:

    O2 - BHO: WormRadar.com IESiteBlocker.NavFilter - {3CA2F312-6F6E-4B53-A66E-4E65E497C8C0} - (no file)
    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {5C255C8A-E604-49b4-9D64-90988571CECB} - (no file)
    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {C84D72FE-E17D-4195-BB24-76C02E2E7C4E} - (no file)
    O16 - DPF: {CAFEEFAC-0016-0000-0013-ABCDEFFEDCBA} (Java Plug-in 1.6.0_13) -
    O16 - DPF: {CF40ACC5-E1BB-4AFF-AC72-04C2F616BCA7} -

    After clicking Fix exit HJT.

    Now we need to use ComboFix
    • Make sure that combofix.exe that you downloaded while doing the READ & RUN ME is on your Desktop but Do not run it!
      • If it is not on your Desktop, the below will not work.
    • Also make sure you have shut down all protection software (antivirus, antispyware...etc) or they may get in the way of allowing ComboFix to run properly.
    • If ComboFix tells you it needs to update to a new version, make sure you allow it to update.
    • Open Notepad and copy/paste the text in the below quote box. Ensure you scroll down to select ALL the lines:
    Code:
    KILLALL::

    DirLook::
    C:\KA

    File::
    C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Local Settings\Application Data\j58yo07cxky8i43lto8oreoi64010icjp
    C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Local Settings\Application Data\q2vxq1410ue0yy561reex8730pt3874ljk4fk521f
    C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\j58yo07cxky8i43lto8oreoi64010icjp
    C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\q2vxq1410ue0yy561reex8730pt3874ljk4fk521f
    C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Templates\j58yo07cxky8i43lto8oreoi64010icjp
    C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Templates\q2vxq1410ue0yy561reex8730pt3874ljk4fk521f
    C:\windows\KA.INI

    Registry::
    [-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Browser Helper Objects\{3CA2F312-6F6E-4B53-A66E-4E65E497C8C0}]
    [-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Browser Helper Objects\{5C255C8A-E604-49b4-9D64-90988571CECB}]
    [-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Browser Helper Objects\{C84D72FE-E17D-4195-BB24-76C02E2E7C4E}]

    • Save the above as CFscript.txt and make sure you save it to the same location (should be on your Desktop) as ComboFix.exe
    • At this point, you MUST EXIT ALL BROWSERS NOW before continuing!
    • You should have both the ComboFix.exe and CFScript.txt icons on your Desktop.
    • Now use your mouse to drag CFscript.txt on top of ComboFix.exe

      http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v666/sUBs/CFScriptB-4.gif

    • Follow the prompts.
    • When it finishes, a log will be produced named c:\combofix.txt
    • I will ask for this log below

    Note:

    Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

    If after running Combofix you discover none of your programs will open up, and you recieve the following error: "Illegal operation attempted on a registry key that has been marked for deletion". Then the answer is to REBOOT the machine, and all will be corrected.

    Please go to virustotal and upload the following files for analysis, and let me know the results.

    • c:\windows\system32\atl32.dll
    • c:\windows\system32\979178000

    Could you please get this: 979178000 into a zipped file and attach it for me in your next post? To do this, see the below:

    Please go to start > Run and paste in the following: (emboldened text)

    %systemdrive%\MGTools\zip "%systemdrive%\collect.zip" c:\windows\system32\979178000

    log retrievable @ C:\collect.zip

    What is this file seen in the below locations?
    • C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Desktop\smvkjgcfge.tmp
    • C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\smvkjgcfge.tmp

    Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it. (Right click and run as admin if using Vista or Windows7) Then attach the new C:\MGlogs.zip file that will be created by running this.

    Let me know of any problems you may have encountered with the above instructions and also let me know how things are running now!

    Don't forget to answer any questions I may have asked.

    Hi again. I think I covered everything listed in your last post. Thanks for your quick assistance!

    I ran MGtools and the zip file is attached. Combofix also ran with no problems and the text file is attached. At virustotal, i submitted the 979178000 file and it came out 0/43. The file had never before been submitted. I did not have a windows\system 32\atl32.dll file. I did have an atl71.dll and an atl.dll. I submitted both and they both came up 0/42. I attached the zipped 979178000 file.

    The smvkjgcfge.temp files are there. I don't know what they are. I couldn't open them without knowing who created them. They have 0 bytes and were created 7/17/2011 (within the time I became infected).

    I reinstalled the avg antivirus after doing all this and it did a whole computer scan and it came up clean! I also ran malware bytes anti malware quick scan and it also came up clean. That is a definite improvement.

    Let me know if there is anything else I can do.

    I wonder if I am all set at this point or is there something else to do. Also, if I am done, can I get rid of some of the software I uploaded?

    If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no protection. They do not use any significant amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.
    2. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /uninstall
        • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /uninstall, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.
    3. Go back to step 6 of the READ ME and renable your Disk Emulation software with Defogger if you had disabled it.
    4. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    5. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    6. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    7. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    8. Goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders
      related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    9. If you are running Win 7, Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning procedures pointed to by step 7 of the READ ME
        for your Window version and see the instructions to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    10. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
