Just yesterday, both my laptop and my desktop (Windows XP) had Norton Anti-Virus freak out with about 30 different Trojan Horse alerts. Names like "Wack-a-Mole Trojan Horse" and many others. Am I the only one who had this happen or was it a mutual occurrence. And in either case - do I need to do anything to protect my computer? All I did was click "do not create an alert for this again" and then OK because the "recommended" action told me not to look at it. Just wondering if I should be worried right now....

    Thanks so much, Stephanie

if you have broadband, and your computer is plugged straight into the modem, then it's a very common occurrence. it's not that everyone out in the world is trying to get you, it's more like a bunch of amateur hackers trying to get everyone in the world by scanning as many machines as they can, leaving you with about 30 different attacks everyday. and even if there are 30 different attacks, norton may be giving false positives because of its overparanoia.

so to answer your question, you are safe as long as you have your firewall up. it's better to be paranoid than to be overconfident in your computer's security, i always say, but you should do just fine. just make sure you dont' go downloading anything you don't trust, or from anywhere you don't trust.

Strogg's right (as usual :) ) Norton is prone to panic attacks every now and then. Sometimes I think it's a merchandising technique.

    SRB, download and install

    Avast download http://www.majorgeeks.com/download1968.html

Log off the net and run it, for a second opinion.

WARNING. Do not run 2 Antivirus programs at the same time when you are on the net.
BEWARE. Every antivirus program tries to install itself as the main one to use.

Many MG 'ers will recommend Avast or AVG, or almost anything else, but Nortons. When your subscription is up I suggest that you change to AVG, Avast, NOD32 (I think it is).

BEWARE Norton AV is difficult to uninstall, according to some users. Post here again if you decide to uninstall Nortons and install something else.

DO YOU have a firewall installed? bazza

Also this thread here will give you an idea of how hard it is to rid yourself completely of Norton.
