I've been having problems with my pc for about 4 days. My daughter was having pop-ups af intersting sites and explorer would have to restart a few timesa day. Before I remembered this forum I ran Norton to scan and came up empty handed. Then downloaded and ran SuperAnti-Spyware free edition, which came up with vundo, 2 unknown trojans and 266 trcking cookies. After that all was well for the rest of the day.
Then it started agian but worse. The pop ups, Norton identity safe stopped working (you couldn't open it or use it in any way), Norton's crimeware and phishing protection turn off everytime you open internet explorer (I have internet explorer 8 beta 1) and ONLY on my log in internet explorer willnot run for more than 30 seconds or so before shutting down and restarting (a little message will pop up from the toolbar saying it is do to DEP). I remebered this forum and have done all the tasks in the read & run me first topic.
Now the pop ups are gone and identity safe seems to be working, but crimeware and phishing protection are still turning off and I'm still not able to use explorer on my log in. I'm attaching the file that are asked for in the read and run me first topic. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I haven't even had this pc a week yet. I have Norton and windows defender on Vista Home Premium.

Looks like most of your malware has already been removed. We just have a little more to do. Your problems with Norton may require an uninstall and reinstall.

Now we need to use ComboFix again.
    • Make sure that combofix.exe that you downloaded while doing the READ & RUN ME is on your Desktop but Do not run it!
      • If it is not on your Desktop, the below will not work.
    • Open Notepad and copy/paste the text in the below quote box into it:
    • Save the above as CFscript.txt and make sure you save it to the same location (should be on your Desktop) as ComboFix.exe
    • At this point, you MUST EXIT ALL BROWSERS NOW before continuing!
    • You should have both the ComboFix.exe and CFScript.txt icons on your Desktop.
    • Now use your mouse to drag CFscript.txt on top of ComboFix.exe
    • Follow the prompts.
    • When it finishes, a log will be produced named c:\combofix.txt
    • I will ask for this log below
    Note:

Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

After reboot, now install the current version of Sun Java from: Sun Java Runtime Environment

Also delete all files and subfolders in the below folders except ones from the current date (Windows will not let you delete the files from the current day).
    C:\WINDOWS\Temp
    C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Local Settings\Temp

Copy the bold text below to notepad. Save it as fixme.reg to your desktop. Be sure the "Save as" type is set to "all files" Once you have saved it double click it and allow it to merge with the registry.
Make sure that you tell me if you receive a success message about adding the above
to the registry. If you do not get a success message, it definitely did not work.

    Now run Ccleaner!

Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator).

    Then attach the below logs:
    • C:\ComboFix.txt
    • C:\MGlogs.zip
Make sure you tell me how things are working now!

The fixme.reg was successful. Internet Explorer still isn't working on my log in. While MGtools was running a message popped up saying SteelWerX WhoAmI application has stopped working. What is that? I can't upload the combofix.txt. I keep getting a message that I have already uploaded it in this thread. I can't delete the files you listed. C:/Windows/temp had 1 file and one document older than todays date, but it said they were in use. I can't get into documents and setting it says access is denied, also is is a shortcut. On my log i there simply is no documents and settings folder, never has been since I got the pc.

Don't worry about it. It is just part of what MGtools runs.

That's because you did not run the fix I gave you in my last message and therefore do not have a new log. Start the previous fix again at the beginning at make sure to follow the steps in order and as written.

Sorry that was supposed to be edited for your Vista PC. The two folders should be:
    C:\Windows\Temp
    C:\Users\angel\AppData\Local\Temp

I did run combofix, but I think it just updated to a newer version. I thought it had also done the scan, sorry. I ran it agian, but it didn't save a log and the notepad that popped up after the program ran was blank. Would you like me to try agian. I still can't delete and older folders or files in windows temp.

This means it is not working properly. Let's do this a different way.

Now download The Avenger by Swandog46, and save it to your Desktop.
    • Extract avenger.exe from the Zip file and save it to your desktop
    • Run avenger.exe by double-clicking on it.
    • Do not change any check box options!!
    • Copy everything in the Quote box below, and paste it into the Input script here: part of the window:
    • Now click the Execute button.
    • Click Yes to the prompt to confirm you want to execute.
    • Click Yes to the Reboot now? question that will appear when Avenger finishes running.
    • Your PC should reboot, if not, reboot it yourself.
    • A log file from Avenger will be produced at C:\avenger.txt and it will popup for you to view when you login after reboot.

    Now run Ccleaner!

Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator).

    Then attach the below logs:
    • C:\avenger.txt
    • C:\MGlogs.zip
Make sure you tell me how things are working now!

Sorry it took me so long to get back to you. Besides an error message popping up about winpez.rom when I log in, everything seems to be going ok. Here are the files you asked for.
    Thanks

Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator). This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines ( they may not all be found ) but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SunJavaUpdateSched] "C:\Program Files\Java\jre6\bin\jusched.exe"
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [combofix] C:\Windows\system32\CF7413.exe /c C:\ComboFix\Combobatch.bat
    O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [MSSMSGS] "rundll32.exe" winpez32.rom,UHeRun

    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.

Now reboot your PC and if everything is okay, move on to the below.

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommed you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no protection. They do not use any significan amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.
    2. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /u
        • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /u, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.
      • Delete the C:\combofix folder from combofix (if it exists)
    3. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    4. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    5. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    6. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    7. You can delete the C:\MGtools folder and the C:\MGtools.exe file. You can also delete the C:\MGlogs.zip
    8. If you are running Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning steps in the READ ME for your Window version and see the steps to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    9. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
