Trojan Problems

I am having a problem with earthlink upgrade that began with abundant spyware/trojan problems. I have followed all of the steps in the tutorial and all of the symptoms have been remedied with the exception of problems with Earthlink Total Access 2005. When I try to start the program to access my broadband, I get an unspecified error causing the program to close. I tried reinstalling the access software and get an error saying that "..//windows\access\earthlinkcommon.msi returned 1601". Any help with this would be greatly appreciated. I am having to use the dial up that comes with earthlink right now, so be patient with response times, please. Thanks,
