Had a nasty pop up at the beginning of the windows start up not showing the desktop or taskbar at the bottom. Any buttons referred back to itself on the display.
Used Alt-Ctrl-Del to get to the Task Manager, choose end now to shut down the trojan, the trojan would still pop up a message referring back to itself, dialog box would show asking to 'end now' to the slow and failing to respond trojan. Then went into Windows folder to find explorer.exe to get to the desktop.

I ran Malwarebytes three different times on after another (last two runs were done from Safe Mode)... First time finding four entries to be rid, second two entries, and finally three entries. IE8 is not responding, slow, no or very slow Internet connectivity. I had ran registry cleaner, registry defrag, file/folder cleaner, and defrag (from safe mode).

I am stuck to what to look for next for the 'performance' and 'connectivity' problems. MSN and Yahoo are limited in connecting. Toolbar buttons are not working as they had before, used to connect to Yahoo! Mail. I had thought to remove the toolbars and see if these aren't a contributing factor but would like to have a more definite 'next step' rather than just willie nillie add/remove things and not be a 'best'.

For the removal the only tool used was Malwarebytes. Norton software is on the machine and did not stop the trojan from entering, although it is a 'gift' from the ISP in which is subscribed for service and no other software is used to 'monitor' and 'care' for the PC.

Hi, are you 100% certain you have completely cleaned your machine. It doesn't sound like it and malware can lead to connectivity problems.

I would highly suggest that instead of just going by Malwarebytes (which is a great tool), you perform all steps here to be sure all infection is gone: READ & RUN ME FIRST. Malware Removal Guide

I skipped this...I went to download and the computer was not accepting the installation of the file. Then the computer began to restart without my touching or prompt while sitting in from of it. I made a floppy of dban to wipe the drive, single round three pass, and reinstalled. Thank you for replying.
