Interested in reports from Geeks with other Antivirus software.

Norton found it as soon as I unzipped the file, before I actually installed it. However it said it 'was unable to repair this file'.

Is no one else prepared to try this?

    Hi Studiot

Sorry I did read your thread but as usual got massively side tracked, good job you bumped it up just now, so as I'm game for these things I ran the test, well kinda I didnt as Avast was very good in not allowing me to fully download this, may have been due to my net connection being slow today, but it halted the DL @ 95%

but I tried again, as soon as my connection was back to normal DL speeds, and it downloaded ok as it is a small file, this time when extracting the ZIP Avast again picks this up and deletes it ok, from the extracted folder, you do still have the original zip but as your AV has alerted you to this being malware, we all would delete this zip.

    So good show for Avast.

Thanks, Halo and very interesting as I will be transfering to Avast today or tomorrow when the current Norton subscription runs out.

I actually received my copy of the test trojan from a commercial information service I subscribe to. It came on their July CD and the web address I posted was in the readme.txt file. I just looked to see if it was a kosher site.

NOD picks it up nicely... although when downloaded via a download accelerator, it picks it up at the end of the download, yet the download still completes and the file remains on the system confused

NO Probs, thought some more would have tried this out for you on other AVs ( Cheers TheDuality for jumping in with NOD and its findings ) to get an overall picture of the popular AVs,

Would be nice to see how AVG, McAfee pick this up, plus I tested this with MS OneCare v2.0 beta and it fails to alert you at extraction of the zip and allows you to install this harmless but test app, Now writing a bug report for the OneCare team on this, even being a test, it should have been picked up like Avast and NOD.

Avast worked beautifully when trying to unzip the file after manual download

And when downloaded through flashget, avast detects malware straight after the download completes
The zip file is left on the system but it only contains a readme (the malware has been removed)
chances are Nod does the same ?

    Interesting test - thanks Studiot

    Yes, Avast does the job.
I had a computer to sort out that had the vodu virus, and the norton tool did not remove it, but the free version of Comodo antivirus found it and took it out, I never use Norton anymore, have not for years.

After looking into another malware issue, I ran the trojan sim file through http://virusscan.jotti.org/ which used all the majors def files, and got his result, interesting.

Hope the Malware crew are noting this, I posted in 'software' to allow/promote a discussion.

    Impressive testing, Halo.

I will run my favourite antispy/anti trojan tonight - xoftspy and report on that one tomorrow.

Just changed over from Norton to Avast.

Avast found it on the first system scan and gave 10 options for dealing with it.

Xoftspy failed to find it, disappointingly.
