This is the first time i've EVER ran into a problem formatting/reinstalling XP.. I ordered a new MB, CPU, RAM, All compatible together. this is my 3rd PC build i've done. So i reformmated my Old harddrive... reinstalled xp... went to put SP 2 on it and got a lot of missing file errors, and it uninstalled itself and my shell or something got messed up. so ireformmated and everytime i try to reinstall xp, i get a lot of COM+/DTC/ MISSING FILE ERRORS or cannot copy over ... so ic ant even install xp... and the install b4 that it said it was missing files for the MB battery/CD DRIVE?? and right now it froze on registering components

I've had problems with reinstalls before, usually had something to do with poor formating apps not removing certain system files from the drive, hence they were left there when the new OS was installed and caused problems. I solved it by using a win98 floppy to format the drive first with Fat32 and then during the install with the XP disk switched to NTFS format. this gave me an absolutely clean install. So at the A:/ command prompt of a win98 boot floppy type (format c: /u) thats assuming your C drive is the one you want to format or you only have one. I usually unplugged all my other drives so I couldn't accidentally format the wrong one. The switch /u means unconditionally and will format the drive from start to finish including any system files or the Master Boot record (MBR).

I thought it was a faulty harddrive... swapped out harddrives from an older one to a new sata hard drive... now after i format the computer just keeps restarting and says cannot load ntloader... any ideas?

Are you using an OEM XP disk? A new CPU, RAM and MB may not allow an OEM version to load.

What I mean by OEM is a disk that came with a PC when it was purchased (like Dell, HP, emachine, etc). A Retail version is a new operating system purchased seperately w/o a PC.
