Hello, hope someone can help me coz i'm really stuck.

I was getting a lot of popups and my internet explorer has stopped working properly, so i switched to using netscape and that was fine.(don't know if that bit was relevant). Anyway, I downloaded Ad-aware and ran a scan on my pc and it found loads and loads of files which i subsequently quarantined. but when i logged off my user account and shut down my PC, the next time i switched it on and tried to log on to my user account it started to log me in and then immediately logged me off again, taking me back to the user account selection screen. I can't get into any of the accounts to do anything about this (i'm currently using a PC in work). Anyone got any ideas on the cause or what I could do?

    any help muchly appreciated

    P.S. its windows XP

thanks but i can't get into windows to do that! when my computer starts up it takes me to the user account selection screen, because everyone in my house uses a different user account, up to here its fine. Its when i try to enter any of the accounts to get into windows that it starts to log me on and then immediately logs me off again and takes me back to the user selection menu. Do you think it might work with safe mode? any ideas?

by the way, as i said i'm having to do this on the computer in work which is heavily restricted and any links in the posts won't work for me

My computer is doing the same thing. It will not boot in safe mode either. I am at a standstill and don't know what to do.

You should be able to login in as administrator under Safe Mode. Have you tried that? This is a trojan/virus causing this, I have had it happen to me before.

Try to login under Safe Mode. You will need a virus program (Norton, McAfee, something free from MG) plus your Ad-aware/Spybot pograms.

If all else fails, see if you can put your drive as a slave into another computer and scan for viruses/trojans that way.

A similar thing seems to have happened to Peaceman and he's tried not to re-install windows (not sure if he succeeded) but when I bought my PC i didn't get a windows XP disk with it. Also, if i did have the disk, how would i go about formatting my PC without being able to get into windows?

i don't think you can format your comp without windows cd. cause you need the info from cd transfered to you harddrive (if i understood your comment correctly). i think you need to get a copy of windows cd to reinstall or format.
