Trouble updatinganti spyware programs.

Any anti spyware program which I use freezes when I try to update them. And it's impossable to close it even through the task manager. Furthermore, windows won't send an error report for these problems. Norton antivirus is up to date and found no viruses. (I could update the programs by downloading the defintions seperately from the web site.) I need a solution for this. Anybody?
