    System Specs:

    Athlon XP 2200+
    Shuttle MN31N MOBO w/nVIDIA nForce 2 chipset
    MSI FX5200-TD128LF (nVIDIA)
    640MB DDR400 RAM
    Windows XP Pro W/SP2
    160GB IDE Western Digital HDD
    CyberDrive CW078D CD-R/RW
    LG GSA 4081B Super-multi DVD-/+R/RW

Since re-loading XP w/SP2 on a new 160GB hard drive a few weeks ago, I have been unable to get Acronis TrueImage to create a bootable CD. I've tried versions 8 & 9, both either give a "error burning CD" message, or completely lock my machine up to the point of needing a hard reboot. It's the same problem whether I use my CD burner, or my DVD burner (with a CD-R, of course).

I've tried it in safe mode, where it sometimes gets further...it looks like it's writing the CD, but within 30 seconds or so it ejects it & gives the "error burning CD" message.

I've uninstalled/reinstalled multiple times (using Registry Mechanic 5 to clean up reg files each time before reinstalling) with no change.

    Anyone have any tips?

You might try disabling your Anti-Virus.

also as your using XP, goto the properties of the burner,

My Computer > right click the drive > Properties > Recording tab and untick "Enable CD recording on this drive" > apply

Thanks for the replies so far. I will try disabling my Norton Corporate 8.1, it's worth a try & another possible coaster.

Halo, I'm just curious how disabling the CD recording would help. For what it's worth, I checked them and the CD burner has it checked, while the DVD burner doesn't...I'll try unchecking the CD burner as well.

Well, no discernable difference after trying the above...all symptoms remain the same :-(

So, stupid question time...I have no problem backing up my HDD to my other partition in the tib format with True Image...so if I create the boot CD on another WinXP computer, it should work for my computer, correct? I'm assuming it's just a regular kind of 'generic' boot CD it creates, and not system specific.

Reading in an Acronis help doc, they did mention that XPs built in CD copy soft interfears with how their boot disk is burned.

But to answer your question it doesnt matter what PC the boot disk is created on as yes its a generic CD ( as I carry a copy around with me when going to various PCs just in case they dont have the cd )

Wavetar another possible option to try in burning that bootable CD is to boot to safe mode and try from there, seems from reading up at Acronis forums that some CD Drives have non standard drivers that can cause a problem... worth a try even if its just a work around?

Yeah, I mention in my original post that I tried that, no difference. The good news is I loaded Acronis onto one of my other XP computers & it burnt the Boot CD no problem. I verified it boots my main computer, and I used it to verify my backup TIB file (which it said was good) so I should be good to go...though I do hope I don't have to use it :)

I remember reading in True Image's docs somewhwere that said it needed UDF drivers in order to write backups to CD/DVD, I don't know if that's also true for the boot disk.
