I upgraded to aol 9.6 after a few days I would sign on and my fonts would change to white color so they could not be seen. Also all the button i.e., send, forward etc would be highlighted in black. I uninstalled and reinstalled and now I cannot upload from my emails. The cursore just keep spinning and saying it was trying to connect to 127.0.0.1 for any upload I try. Do you have any suggestions as to what I can try to do to correct this?

    thank you,

    Wadda

I wish I had a suggestion for you to fix the problems, but the question comes to mind. Why do you use AOL desktop at all when you can access aol and your mail using a better browser, like firefox,

127.0.0.1 is the standard IP address used for a loopback network connection. This means that if you try to connect to 127.0.0.1, you are immediately looped back to your own machine. 127.0.0.1 is also referred to as “localhost”, meaning ‘this computer’.

    Hi

What Windows version and Service Pack are you using?

What Security applications do you have installed, and one thing to try is if you haev a 3rd party firewall application installed is to disable it to see if thats blocking your AOL app from connecting to the internet.

    Hey wadda,

also, windows firewall may be the culprit.

    go to control panel/windows firewall.
click on allow a program or feature through windows firewall.
    click on allow another program...
browse and add aol's startup .exe file.
next, click the network location types... and checkmark all options.
click ok, click add and click ok again.
    reboot the computer.

if no go, go back to windows firewall and disable it completely for all network locations.
    reboot and test again.

also, if 9.6 has privacy wall, it may be conflicting with win firewall. try disabling or uninstalling privacy wall.

I would go in your Internet Options and make sure in the "Connections" tab go into "Lan Settings" and make sure that the use of a poxy is not set.

also, if this is an xp machine, I would check the hosts file and make sure it's not comprimised.

As abekl mentioned, do away with the AOL software and check your email through a web browser.
