trouble with c media ac97 audio device

Hi there!

I hope you can help me. The sounds gone on the pc, for unknown reasons!!! I have been trying to do a bit of troubleshooting to no avail. I've looked up some info (about the mother board????) and its a gigabyte amd socket 754. I hope that makes more sense to you than it does to me. I'm a nurse and absolutley rubbish with computers! Not that the two go hand in hand of course!
I have done some of the stuff troubleshooting suggests, reinstalling drivers, updating, turning off and on, making sure eveythings connected. i ahve also tried some of the things you have suggested to others before, going to control panel, audio and sounds and going back to default but I have nothing in default.
Can you help me !!!!!!!!!

 

Where did you get new driver from?
What's the computer brand and model?
Do you have any errors in Device Manager?
What Windows version?

I didn't get a new driver just tried re installing it form the wizard.

In device manager there is an exclamation mark next to c media ac97 audio device.

Operating system is windows XP OEM software.

Make and model of computer. God really have no idea. i've had a look round it, theres nothing much apart form a ticket on the side saying windows XP and giving me loads of numbers??

I've put it on desktop, wasn't sure what to do with it really!

 

Have you tried running the .exe from the desktop? It may install itself with no problems.
