trouble with hp printer

i have a hp f4400 (el cheapo). when you can get it to print it does very well. last year i put together a new computer which is running windows 7 64bit. i thought i had loaded/downloaded all the software and drivers i needed, but i think i missed something concerning the printer. this printer was used with an older model dell and it worked fine, no problems. as it stands right now i can print jpeg and bitmap images, web pages and anything i scan and save. it will not print any type of text file. documents from notepad, wordpad or open office will not print. i've made sure i have the latest windows updates and hp drivers so i don't think that is the problem. does this make any sense? any help will be most appreciated.:confused

 

First uninstall the existing drivers then download the drivers for your setup from this location.

In case that does not help, are you able to print in black when you are printing the jpg etc images?

If you have not already, I would try to print some other text other than black, in case your black ink is not working, is dried up etc.
Give blue, red or some other color a try.
