Hello, I'm working on my Father's computer trying to get it working in tip-top shape, and I'm having a bit of problems. The first thing I set about doing was uninstalling the multiple versions of Java on the machine, and reinstalling the latest release of Java from their official website. This seemed to be working alright, but I am still getting an error message upon startup regarding an error with Java VM, and I cannot get rid of J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 6. Now, I suppose I could just run off of 5, but I'd rather stick with the latest version since we're not running any software on this machine that would probably cause an incompatibility with the newest Java. The error I get when I try to uninstall 5.0 update 6 is "Fatal Error during installation", nothing more detailed. I thought perhaps installing version 6 might bring in some missing files that were needed for the uninstall, but I had no such luck.

That's my first problem. By the way I'm running on Windows XP SP2

My second problem is with Spybot Search and Destroy. I've reinstalled it multiple times trying to fix this problem, but to no avail. When I try to install updates, it gives me an error: "Failed to load C:\Program Files\ etc. etc. \UNZDLL.dll". What this tells me is that the updates are being downloaded, but not unzipped into their proper directories, which is a problem because having them in the wrong folder is as bad as not having them at all. Maybe I'm wrong in my thinking, but either way any help would be appreciated. As a side note, the GUI for Spybot is telling me the updates have been downloaded, despite the error.

Thirdly, I am having a problem with Photogallery. This is software that I am simply not interested in, and uninstalled from the machine. However, now everytime I boot, Windows is giving me an install for Photogallery. I've tried disabling the run at startup process for the install, but it's not helping. Every time I start certain programs, Photogallery wants to install and won't allow me to open the program until I've closed it multiple times.

If any more information is needed, please post in the thread and I'll be sure to let you know.

First problem: in an old thread here, where the person was getting the same error you were, this was recommended to remove J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 (# of update doesn't matter)

Third Problem: Is this Windows PhotoGallery or HP's PhotoGallery?
If it is windows, try the windows installer cleanup utility.

I've used it to help me remove traces of a program that an uninstall left behind.

Thanks for the advice. I'll have to give both these a try, although I do believe it is HP's Photogallery. I personally wasn't aware there was a difference.
