Trouble with Netflix on Chrome and IE9

I use Chrome as my default browser. I recently signed up for Netflix. It worked fine the first couple days. The next time I tried to play a video it played fine, but it was in black and white and was crowded over to the left side of my screen. This situation has gone back and forth 4 times. It straightens out and comes back for a few days and then it's gone again -- only this time it doesn't appear that it's going to start working again.

Netflix gave me a link to paste in the address bar for removing Netflix cookies. That worked last time but not this time. I have uninstalled and reinstalled Silverlight 3 times but still not sure things are right with that because of what happened when I tried to play Netflix on IE 9.

As soon as I click a video to play in IE 9 I get a page that tells me I have to first install Silverlight. Even tho I already have it installed, I clicked on the option to install it and in the end I'm told it can't be installed because it's the same version as the Silverlight already installed. What????? If it's already installed then why tell me it has to be installed to watch a video?

In Googling this problem, I found a link that someone posted which shows exactly what I see when I try to play Netflix in Chrome. It is at: http://i2.minus.com/i3UpOywEG5do8.jpg

I don't have any trouble playing or streaming videos on any other sites I've tried -- abc.com, nbc.com, crackle.com, YouTube.

I also discovered that Netflix plays just fine in Firefox -- so far. Maybe it will start doing the same thing there.

If there is anyone out there who thinks they might be able to give me some suggestions, I would be so grateful?

I was disappointed that I never received any responses to this, until this one from you.

I don't know for sure if it's solved. I uninstalled Chrome, but without removing all my settings. That didn't work so then I uninstalled Chrome again, but this time used Geek Uninstaller and wiped everything. It seemed to work right after I did that ... But not for long.

I had to install an update for Foxit Reader. They had some bundled software checked in the download and I unchecked it as I always watch for that stuff.

However, I started having a horrible time, even on my Amazon account. I finally stumbled upon the answer which was something in my Chrome Extensions called Selection Links, which I did not install, had never heard of.

Further, I couldn't uninstall it, I couldn't disable it. I was fit to be tied. Through much Googling I finally found a fix for that and got rid of it and in the process found out that this Selection Links is apparently something I got through updating Foxit Reader.

So as things stand right now my Netflix is working. Whether the problem was due to the above I don't know for sure because I was having the problems before I ended up with Selection Links.

Did you have something in mind that you thought might solve my problem. If so please share it even though things are working right now. If something goes wrong again in the future it might be something I could try.

In any event, thanks for at least recognizing my post.

    Nikilet...

I didn't have any ideas, although lots of problems to come through extensions these days it seems.

Too bad Foxit went that route. That's a bad habit. I hope they get that turned around.

Just noticed your post had slipped through when I took a look at the second page and wanted to make sure you had found some resolution. Gotta say thanks for the reply. Anyone else who has this problem will now have a good reference.

Good resolution to a tricky problem. Nice detective work on your part...

I should have added the link for how to remove this extension, or any other extension in Chrome that states it is a managed extention and can't be removed or disabled. The link is:

    http://www.pcrisk.com/computer-tech...w-to-remove-a-managed-google-chrome-extension

There's only one note to add. They say to look under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE for that ExtensionInstallForceList. On my machine I found it under HKEY_CURRENT_USER.

One person reported finding this key in both places, so if you run into this problem you may need to check around like I did.
