    Welcome to Major Geeks!

Download the below file to your Desktop. Once saved on your Desktop, Right click on it and select Install

    EXEfix

Then see if you can run EXE files. If you can then move right back into running the steps in the below link:

If you press CTRL-SHIFT-ESC ( use this key sequence, not CTRL-ALT-DEL ) does Task Manager open?

task manager does open it's weird that i can't open IE itself to connect to int i ahve to go into back up and click restore for my int it's liek all of the progams are targeted somewhere else

It's not weird. Your file associations have all been changed to open IE for all types of file extentions.

From Task Manager, click File, New Task (...Run ) and enter cmd and click OK. Does the Command Prompt window open.

Cmd does not open up it brings up IE again

Okay then try the below from Task Manager.

From Task Manager, click File, New Task (...Run ) and enter the below command and click OK. Make sure you have a space after the assoc

    assoc .exe=exefile

If you are able to do the above without getting anykind of error or having IE popup, also enter the below command the same way. Again note the space after ftype and also before the percent sign. Make sure you enter this as show all characters. The quotes are necessary and so is the asterik.

    ftype exefile="%1" %*

In one of the IE windows that open, what happens if you paste the below into the address bar and his enter?

    http://forums.majorgeeks.com/chaslang/files/fixexe.reg

If it gives you options to Run, Save, or Cancel, see if you can select Run.

    Tell me what happens.

Also from Task Manager, click on the Processes tab, do you see any strange processes running?

You specifically get asked if you want to Run, Save or Cancel? Are you sure that is exactly what you get?

    Is greg.exe something your recognize?

What happens if you boot your PC in safe boot mode? Do things work better?

Then you may be in big trouble. You can try using another PC to download create the Recovery Discs mentioned in the below links. Choose the correct one for whether you have a 32 bit (x86) or 64 bit system.

    Windows 7 64-Bit (x64) Recovery Disc

    Windows 7 32-Bit (x86) Recovery Disc

If you can make one of these discs, you can try booting from it and performing a System Restore from the System Recovery Environment. You can read about the Windows 7 System Recovery Environment and see the options it provides in the below link; however you will not be trying to get to the Command Prompt. You will want to try a System Restore.
