I am trying to replace a HDD (specs: 30GB, ATA-4, 4200rpm) on a basic Toshiba Satellite pro A10 laptop, possibly with a 40 or 60GB variety and notice that all i see on the net are disks with ATA-100, ATA-133, ATA-6 and ultra ATA interfaces and 5200 rpm.

Will theses work on my laptop straight away?

I wonder if the faster spin rate will mean more power demand from the power supply, something i am not sure i can change in a laptop.

    Ps Help!

The ATA 6 will work, those HDD are backwards compatible.
    ATA 4 = 33MBps, ATA 6 = 100MBps
Your Laptop may not support the higher transfer rate, but will work at the speeds it's rated for.

    ASUS,

Thanks a million. The site was equally helpful. No need wasting money on faster disk drives if the machine can't make use of the extra speed then.
