I recently picked up a Gateway DX4870-UB318. When powering on, the fans start up and you can hear it check the DVD drive and then immediatley you hear 6 fast beeps. Then it shuts down. Then it starts back up again doing the same thing, 6 fast beeps and then it shuts down again. I have to pull the power cord out to shut it off or it will keep doing this. The monitor does not show anything. It doesn't seem to recognize it. It has onboard graphics. 8 gb memory. I checked the memory cards, did the eraser trick and reseated them. It has DDR3 4 gb, two sticks. Wondering if I should insert a graphics card.

The overall condition of this computer is immaculate. It has hardly been used as there is no dust inside. It has a SSD drive in it. Someone must have installed it because it didn't come with it originally. Thinking of pulling that and installing a regular HD of 1 TB.

    Ideas anyone?

Disconnect the mouse, keyboard, and anything else, including the ROM drives, except the SSD plugged into it and try powering up. If that doesn't work, disconnect the SSD. If that doesn't work, it's a nice case...

Ok, I will try these options when I get off work and will post back with results. Thank you for your input.

6 beeps usually points to a video card issue.

@foogoo Interesting because there is no video/graphics card installed. However, there is a Wireless card, Anatel wifi with two antenna jacks. This was also installed by owner. I totally overlooked this until now. I am going to pull it.

Or worst case scenario, board blew a gasket.

I said "usually", BIOS beeps vary by manufacture..6 could be Video, could be an expansion card, or could be the mobo. Best if you Google specific to your BIOS manufacture.
Like the mekanic said, pull the parts - but pull everything except the power to the board, the front panel jumpers, CPU & FAN - so KB, mouse, expansion cards, RAM, hard drives..then boot.
The beep cade might change to indicate no RAM, then add RAM and reboot, see if it comes back to life or goes back to the six beeps.

Is there a logo on the BIOS splash screen? Do you see a vendor? AMI? Phoenix, perhaps?
