True max resolution?

My laptop, i think its LCD screen can only display 1024x768. But the video drivers i get for this thing tells me i can go up to 2048x1536 but when i do it, it shows a very zoomed in image. I can scroll around and see everything on the desktop but, i was wondering if i can make it use that resolution but not zoom it in so much.

example.... 1024x768 i can see everything normaly. but when i go to the highest one or anything higher actualy, it wont show the whole desktop.

I have a Acer Aspire 3000 1.8ghz amd sempron I forget the graphics offhand but. You can probably look those up, ill find out what they are if that helps at all.

According to a cnet review I found for your laptop, the maximum resolution for your display is 1024x768.

 

n00b, I have read that, but what confuses me. Is why my graphics chip or GPU, shows that i can get a max of 2048x1536?

Is it supposed to show that high of a resolution even tho my monitor i guess doesn't support it?

 

No clue. All I know about your laptop is what I read on cnet.
