Trying to add second hard drive

hi. i wasn't sure if i should create a new thread for this since i am having the same type of problem right now. I have an IDE hdd (HITACHI Deskstar over 150GB) that i formatted to FAT32 through USB adapter on another laptop and included files (music, movies of like 16 gb). I used fat32format through CMD on vista with that laptop to format it since the HDD was RAW at first. Alright, so i get to my old PC (Sony Vaio 2004) & before i insert the FAT32 HDD i am pretty sure i have to set the jumpers to this HDD as slave since it's not my main HDD that runs the OS (WinXP SP3) but my PC still didn't detect it. i also tried disk management through Manage -> My Computer, still nothing. I messed around with the BIOS to see if anything is there but the HDD is not recognized. I ran the Recovery Console XP disc with the FAT32 HDD being the only one connected this time around as Cable select (not slave) to set the MBR and i used the command "fixmbr." Everything went fine but i still can't get it recognized even with Cable select or slave. I ran the XP disc again & when i want to install Windows XP it does detect my FAT32 HDD as well but...i don't think i need to install XP just to get my HDD recognized as slave??? My HDD is only recognized when i connect it via USB adapter but i want it inserted & recognized through IDE. Any help would be appreciated thanks.

 

If your hd came with a install disk try installing the hd so that the computer can read it.And try and make sure that one hd is a master and the other is a slave.And make sure your bios is in default mode.Oh and make sure your power supply can handle two hd's.
