Hi Folding crew, i have a rig that has got some real power even without overclocking it is capable of 15.000 PPD.

Now because we live in an apartment i can only run it during the day so i have an idea to put it in he garage and let it run 24/7.

If i do it this way i will set everything to start with the PC so i do not have to physically start any application.

The only thing i am not fully sure of is, with the PC set to run automatically will it fold if i leave it without keyboard/mouse and screen or would i have to put a dummy loader on the GPU ,,,

wish I had something like that to stick out in the garage.

on my main computer, though I should go ahead and migrate over to win7,just used to using XP and it still works for me all around.

I do have win7 ultimate x64 on another computer using only the GPU to fold, but I had to figure out how to stop win7 from going to sleep, once I done that I use the console client and start manually with a dos box always showing on the task bar with the monitor not plugged in,but I do have the keyboard and mouse hooked up.

not really sure this helps ,but thought to throw it out there for you.

I have a part built rig in the garage at the moment and if this idea fly's then i will finish it and use that one in the house (its much quieter)

The only problem is i do not have a spare screen and can see that being the only problem but i have a dummy load for the GPU witch may work.

If no one knows the answer for sure I will tell you next week because i will give it a shot.

P.S. how do you set Bigadv in the new V7 beta client???

    Hi Bill,

The section that describes setting up flags for the V7 client is on the lower half of this page

    http://folding.stanford.edu/English/WinGuide

and all the differences between the V6 flags and V7 flags can be found here at this link, provided to me by lbmest :)

Great idea Bill! However you've got some work to do. First of all, 77C is a bit too high for the CPU, should be 70C max. I assume you have the stock HS/F from Intel? You may want to look at a Corsair H50 or H70, especially if you will overclock that badboy to 3.8GHz+ which is what you need for the -bigadv bonus points. ASUS has a great overclocking utility though I don't know the Rampage series.

Next you will have to set up a network so that you can use HFM to monitor your i7 without having to go to the garage. BTW, HFM can't read v7 logs yet so look for network reporting in v7 or revert back to v6 as you won't lose any points and HFM will see everything. If you do OC then keep in mind that v7 doesn't calculate bonus points ATM. That's about it I think as that's plenty on your plate for now.:p:-D

BTW, you probably do need a keyboard as on boot you will get an error. You might be able to use a KVM SWITCH though I don't know how far those signals can go. I'd get a cheap monitor + kbd/mouse for problem days. How far away is the garage as the cable lies(if not going wireless) as that will determine what you can do and then post in Networking to get better help than I can provide. Good Luck Bill!:)

Hope to see those bonus points spike every three days or so!:wine

It is not the stock cooler i have a "Coolmaster V8" installed, i cranked it up a bit and the temp is now 72C.

It will not be a problem to network the PC and i have spare keybord and mouse, it's just the screen i don't have.
