Anyone know if MG has an appl similar to Tile|conifier from github? Is github absolutely a clean download site? I'm paranoid and don't even trust Softpedia anymore. Only MG.

Been trying to change the icon for a text editor I got & from searching, even MS remote in, can't find how to do so under W10. Settings or right-click a file. MS tech support says only a Reg edit will do. There is no Shortcut tab for applications anymore, running W10 ver 1903.

Would really like to get all these blue icons changed.

    Hey thanks mates,

    Mac

I stopped trusting Softpedia after I downloaded my first (and last!) program from that site. That program contained a virus that took me several hours to get rid of. That was 7 or 8 years ago. I downloaded one file, and one file only. I wouldn't trust Softpedia any farther that I could throw them.

Nirsoft is a safe site. I use several of his programs on my computers and have for quite a few years.
His programs are small and NONE of them install. You run a program from the exe file only so it is like a portable app.

I avoid softonic but I never had a problem with softpedia.

Thanks. I'd have to research github. I know it's well known but it's getting nutty out there. I hope to run all browsers in a VM as soon as I build a Ryzen system in 2 weeks, and get some time from work.

Found another coder's appl from another Geek site but sorry no cigar.

    Thanks again everyone.

I dislike sounding unresourceful, but would anyone be familiar with FileTypesMan? I ran it and can find the .rtf file type listed but even from the website can't figure out how to change just the icon. When I highlight that file type, the bottom pane shows Name, Caption, Default, Disabled, Last Modified, Command line, Icon (where there's only a delta icon I can change up or down, but it doesn't seem to do anything), and a lot of other column headings I could list.

When I close the program I get a small window stating 'Some files extracted from blabla x64.zip were modified or new files were created. Do you want to put them in the archive?' I chose no.

Not too sure Nirsoft is going to support the non paid version I now have. Just want to change that icon back.

    Appreciate any pointers.

Will MS tech support give you the regedit to accomplish the wanted change? If so, make a restore point, backup the registry, then try their idea. If no go, revert.

    Follow these steps:
    • Double-click .rtf.
    • Next to Default Icon: click ...
    • Click Browse...
    • Locate the .ico; .icl; .dll; .exe file for your icon of choice.

MS level 1 tech support said only L2 goes to that length so just as well. I also don't use Regedit very often. Make a restore point before any program install.

    Eldon I'll try those steps.

    Thank you both.

Yep, that worked. Better to not make a mistake in software you aren't familiar with vs. start clicking on things.
