    It looks like that board belongs to an HP.
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?lc=en&cc=us&dlc=&product=299504&docname=bph07813

    You may be able to use these drivers if it is.
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareList?os=228&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=&product=299504

    A make and model # would help if your PC is not a home built.
    Or even better:
    Use Everest to get a report of your system’s hardware, OS, and drivers. Upload the report as an attachment
    Everest: http://www.majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4181
    When Everest is done scanning, click "Report" at the top of the Everest window, click next to get to "Report Profile", select "Hardware related pages", click next, select "Plain Text", click "Finish". Then when it is done processing, click "Save To File". Save it where you want to. (I would use Desktop.)
    Click "Go Advanced" in the MG reply box, scroll down a little way until you see "Manage Attachments", click it, browse to your file, click "Upload", and close the window. Then submit the post. You may have to also type something in the reply box, like, "Here's my report.", so that it will submit.

    Thanks, that helped a lot, I hope.
    According to your report, your PC IS HP (Pavillion a305w)
    The drivers you need are here:
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareList?os=228&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&product=362754&lang=en

    It is best to install your chipset drivers, first, so that your audio and graphics drivers will install. (This is in case there is something corrupted within the chipset drivers)
    INF Update Utility - Primarily for Intel® 800 Series Chipsets

    The graphics drivers should install without problems.
    The audio (Realtek) may cause some problems.

    First, uninstall any Realtek through Add/Remove Programs, then check in your Program Files to see if there is a Realtek folder, delete it, if it's there.
    Run CCleaner, both the Cleaner and Registry.
    http://www.majorgeeks.com/CCleaner_Slim_No_Yahoo_Toolbar_English_d4191.html
    Install your driver, then do a complete shut down and re-boot.

    yea my pc is hp pavilion a305w.just to be sure when installing the chipset driver do i just click on the setup icon and let it go through that and then its installed cause thats what i done.also i will do the ccleaner and registry cause when i install the real tek audio driver my pc goes crazy for example it won't let me go to sounds and audio devices or anything on my desktop but when i disable everythings fine and in sounds and audio theres no audio device found.so maybe this will solve my problem.thanks please reply

  6. musksnipe

    musksnipe Guest

    Yes, that should install it. It is mainly just an extra step to make sure your chipset is in order.
    The problem you're describing for Realtek is a new one to me. Hopefully, removing the old Realtek , running CCleaner, and installing the new will prevent that.

    i tryed what you said with cleaner program but it still don't work under device manager microsoft kernel acoustic echo canceller,microsoft kernel audio splitter and microsoft kernel wave audio mixer are yellow with black exclamation point and say this when i click on them.
    Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware because there is a duplicate device already running in the system. (Code 42)
    i can't figure this out for nothing i'm starting to think theres no way to get the sound back.maybe those conflicts have something to do with it.thanks please reply

    Have you restarted your PC after getting that message? That should resolve that.

    sure have i have no idea of what could be wrong i'm thinking of reformating and reinstalling windows cause now it won't let me uninstall the real tek driver plus it won't let me do a system restore i have no clue why.i'll tell you what caused my sound problem in the first place was i tryed to do a recovery but one of my recovery disc didn't burn right and i had to reinstall windows from disc and ever since then i've had no sound.i've seen alot of other people have had this problem i just hope i acn get my sound back somehow.also can i install a sound card to this pc with its sound being on the mother board and everthing cause i might just do that if i don't figure this out before to long.thanks please reply

    Go into the BIOS and disable the onboard audio.
    Boot into Safe Mode and go to Add/Remove Programs and uninstall the Realtek software.
    Reboot back into Safe Mode.
    Go into Device Manager and in the menu select View/Show Hidden Devices and delete any of the audio/multimedia devices. Do not delete Legacy or Codecs.

    Reboot back to safe mode.
    Make sure those devices aren't listed.
    Reboot back into your BIOS and enable the onboard audio.
    Boot back into Windows (normal) and cancel the Hardware Wizard.

    Now try installing your driver.

    As the PC starts, press one of these keys Yours would be F1, F2, (or ESC for laptop)
    (here is a list by manufacturer)http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/bios_manufacturer.htm
    Or the right key will be posted on the very first screen.
    Tap it until you enter set-up, then look for your audio (it should be in Advanced or in Integrated Peripherals)
    Make sure sound is set correctly, when finished. (Enabled)

    ok i done what you said but when i boot into safe mode to uninstall real tek from add remove programs it won't uninstall i uninstall it then reboot and its still there.i noticed before i began doing what you said that the conflicts with the code 42 in device manager were gone but if i enable real tek ac97 in device manager one pops up and when i restart there were like three poped up so i disabled them and now my driver is not freezing my pc but still no sound.i guess i'm gonna have to do a clean install of windows and retry what you said.this has to be fixable i hope we can figure this out its really buggin me.i'll get back to you thanks please reply.

  15. musksnipe

    musksnipe Guest

    I looked back in your report, you have a Realtek Network Adapter, also. That may be why it won't uninstall.
    With the Realtek Audio disabled, can you get it to uninstall, while in Device Manager? Then go into Program Files and find the folder with your audio driver and delete that.

  16. code_name47

    code_name47 Private E-2

    ok i got it to uninstall in device manager but when you said to delete anything that was audio or multimedia in device manager i deleted media control devices so if that was anything important i'm looking at a reinstall of windows.if not though should i just reboot in safe mode and install the real tek again.i looking for a way to just get it to work now even if i have to reinstall windows maybe i'll at least know how to get it to work after i reinstall.before i uninstalled the real tek driver through device manager it wasn't freezing my pc like it was when the code 42 duplicate devices were enabled so i went to view show hidden devices and i seen microsoft audio wave mixer pop up and something like microsoft dmm can't remember exactly but they were working properly and then they were gone all of a sudden i don't know what that was about but they won't show up again.if you think i need to reninstall let me know cause i'm stumped.thanks please reply

    Run CCleaner again, restart your PC, and look in Device Manager. (Sound, Vid, Games) Hopefully now, all is well there, except your audio driver. (We should be able to get anything you deleted back. Audio and multimedia are almost the same thing, so don't worry to much)
    If that is the case, then try reinstalling Realtek , again

    I know this seems like we are getting nowhere, but I believe we are. It is easier to just do an OS reinstall, sometimes, but people get in the habit of doing that every time they have a little problem and never learn how to resolve their issues. Myself I don't have the time for reinstalls of Windows and apps, then re-configuring all of them, plus removing my personal stuff and then adding them back in.

    i believe we are making progress to i'll hold off on the reinstall for right now cause its to big of a hassle i think if i reinstalled now i may never fix this problem.i wanna appreciate you for helping me with this i've posted on a couple forums and this is the most progress i've made since then.at least now when the driver is installed it doesn't freeze my pc so somethings right there.i'll run the cleaner then reinstall realtek.if you could tell me how to take a screenshot of my pc maybe i could post some of those they may help solve this sound mystery.thanks please reply

    This is how I do it:
    Download PhotoFiltre
    http://www.majorgeeks.com/PhotoFiltre_d4587.html
    You won't need to really know the ins and outs of it.

    OK, get what you want to grab on screen, press Print SCR.
    Open PhotoFiltre, right click on the work area, choose "Paste as new image"
    Crop your image by clicking (and holding button down) and dragging the selection box around your selected area. Then right click and choose "Crop". (The selection tool should be choosen by default)
    Now right click again, choose "Save as" choose where you want to send your image. (I use Desktop)
    Click "Save"
    Yo will see a sliding scale and a button that says preview. Click preview, you want your image around 97kb or less, so slide the scale down and click preview, until you get it there, Then, click "OK".

    Now back here at MG:
    Click "Go Advanced" in the MG reply box, scroll down a little way until you see "Manage Attachments", click it, browse to your file, click "Upload". Then submit the post. You may have to also type something in the reply box, so that it will submit.

    That is odd, Device Manager shows the driver installed.
    Are you sure BIOS is set to enabled for sound? (It probably is, because I don't think Realtek would show.)

    Go to Control Panel>Sounds and Audio Devices and click the Audio tab. In Sound Playback, what are your choices for Default Device?

    I don't think I suggested this yet either.
    Go to Control Panel>Administrative Tools>Services
    Scroll down the list of services until you find the Windows Audio service.
    Right click on it and choose Properties.
    Make sure it is set to Automatic and Start is checked.

    I just noticed something odd in your Everest report and now see it in your Device manager, too.
    You have 2 "Plug and Play Software Device Enumerators" listed in System Devices. There should only be one.
    Check them both out. If they seem to be exact duplicates of each other, disable one and restart your PC. It's possible they are conflicting.

    hey just to let you know i read somewhere among the masses of forums on this subject to go to device manager system devices and update the plug and play software device enumerator so i did so and rebooted and now under sounds and audio it shows my real tek acp7 as my sound recording device and microsft gs wavetable sw synth as midi playback and also my voice recording has real tek as its default device now heres a pic to help.i had two plug an play software device enumerator devices listed but now i only have one.i still have no audio device in sound and audio and i'm thinking of uninstalling and reinstalling real tek but i'm kinda scared since i'd hate to lose this progress.any ideas if so please reply thanks

    Did you check the Windows Audio Service to make sure it was running?

    I just went looking for some answers to your DxDiag error problem. Looks like they knew less than I do on how to fix it. :( I did find 2 things. One points to errors in the registry, but the DxDiag test provided suggested the right entries. Yours didn't. The other said that a reinstall of DirectX will fix registry errors, so that's the next step.

    OK, just to see where we are. Is this cleared up?
    Maybe this will resolve your problem with the audio not being recognized.
    Scenario One
    In Device Manager your Audio Device is "Working Properly"
    and
    You DO have "Plug and Play Software Device Enumerator" listed under System Devices

    Carry out the following steps;
    * Copy C:\WINDOWS\inf\machine.inf to a temporary location
    * Edit your copy of machine.inf in Notepad
    * Remove line 20 (ExcludeFromSelect=*)
    * Right-click “Plug and Play Software Device Enumerator” and click “Update Driver”
    * Choose “Install from a list or specific location (Advanced)” and click Next
    * Choose “Don’t search. I will choose the driver to install” and click Next
    * Click “Have Disk”
    * Browse to the location of your copy of machine.inf and click OK
    * Select “Plug and Play Software Device Enumerator” and click Next
    * Wait for the software to install then click Finish

    Scenario Two
    In Device Manager your Audio Device is "Working Properly"
    and
    You DON’T have "Plug and Play Software Device Enumerator" listed under System Devices

    Carry out the following steps;
    * Copy C:\WINDOWS\inf\machine.inf to a temporary location
    * Edit your copy of machine.inf in Notepad
    * Remove line 20 (ExcludeFromSelect=*)
    * Go to the Control Panel and run “Add Hardware”
    * When the Add Hardware Wizard appears, click Next
    * Wait for it to search for new hardware
    * Choose Yes, I have already connected the hardware and click Next
    * Scroll all the way down and select “Add a new hardware device”, click Next
    * Choose “Install the hardware that I manually select from a list (Advanced)”, click Next
    * Select “Show All Devices” and click Next
    * Click “Have Disk”
    * Browse to the location of your copy of machine.inf and click OK
    * Under Model, select “Plug and Play Software Device Enumerator”, click Next
    * To start installing the drivers, click Next
    * Wait for the software to install then click Finish

    Your audio device should now be recognized in Sounds and Audio Device ( I know I've said that before)rolleyes

    Dan posts here, too and he seems to know what he's doing. That is the right chipset he suggested, but I don't know why the other parts were suggested.
    We usually suggest the chipset, because the chipset drivers enable the other drivers to install.
    If you didn't get any error messages, the chipset installed.
    I was always under the impression that this was a controller hub and not audio.
    Before trying that long and slightly complicated fix, in my last post, see if you can disable that driver, install, the chipset driver I suggested, install the Realtek audio , check your sound, then re-enable the other driver if you have no sound yet.
    I've never tried that, so not sure what will happen. (Nothing that can't be reversed) You may just get messages saying that you can't do that. LOL

    Check all your settings in Control Panel>Sound and Audio. Make sure Realtek is the default device in all your playback, check for anything that says digital and make sure it is not chosen (It should be a check box somewhere. I can't access my wife's XP system right now or I would look for that setting for you) Also does your version of Realtek have an audio manager listed in the control panel? If it does check those settings also.

    I'm really thinking this is a chipset issue, but try this:
    Open the Control Panel and open Add/Remove. Under Windows Setup find the Multimedia option. Open it to see exactly what is setup on your machine.
    If the volume control is checked it is installed. You can add it by checking it's box.
    DO NOT change any other feature anywhere (unless you want to add or remove it). Click Apply and have your Windows CD handy.

    If it is there go back to the Control Panel and open Multimedia. On the Audio tab make sure that the box next to Show Volume Control In Task Bar is checked. Click OK.
    If the speaker does not come up at once then you have s software conflict. You may have to uninstall the soundcard software (through Add/Remove) and try again.

    You might have a bad or corrupt winmm.dll. You should be able to extract this single file from your Windows CD and replace it.

    If those things don't work try installing the chipset driver again, shutting down and then rebooting.
    INF Update Utility - Primarily for Intel® 800 Series Chipsets

    Then reinstall your audio driver again.

    It's a possibility that your install problem could have something to do with an out-dated BIOS.
    I don't have much experience with BIOS's, so I don't have a lot of advice. There is a newer BIOS update at HP for your model, but I'm not sure it is for your board. Intel should have the proper one for your chipset, but I don't know if the HP one was slightly modified.
    Make sure you set a Restore Point before applying it.

    I am out of advice pretty much, too. The only thing I have to suggest is starting back at step one and working through again. Especially, uninstalling Realtek audio in Device Manager, running CCleaner registry tool, and then trying to reinstall the driver again. It's possible you may discover something you missed doing the first time around.

    That's a Realtek audio driver for the ALC650 chip. (It may also be for others)
    Here are some tips on troubleshooting audio problems by Intel. They use Realtek drivers on a lot of their board, so this may help.
