Trying To Get Win 10 To Allow Updates Across Lots Of Software.

It would seem that the most recent MS 10 update threw a wrench in the machine.
Even MS support was a bit baffled.

The computer will not restart properly, (have to hard shut down and start losing the update each time) when trying to get it to take the new settings.
I can't update with Nvidia GeForce Experience the computer times out and it fails.

Using Glary Utilities, Driver Easy can't update software either.

So I come to the best to get the most relevant suggestions for a plan of action

Thanks to everyone on here for taking a look.

Right click on start & choose powershell/terminal with admin & type/copy & paste these cmds one at a time then click Enter:
    Code:
    SFC /SCANNOW
    DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /StartComponentCleanup
    DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
    SFC /SCANNOW

Yes the Sfc cmd is run twice.

Well the issue is still going on. I did the steps and it looked promising but it didn't correct the issue.
I've set the boot to safe mode and enabled all.
It's an hours log loop that does need a hard shut down and hard start to get any where.
It's been a great box for years now I'm thinking perhaps the HDD is failing it's a western digital.

Quite possible. How old is the drive?

It must be at least 5-7 yrs old by now.

I'm thinking I could take it out of the box and cable it to my laptop and perhaps do the necessary cleaning, clearing out (but I do this work regularly on the machine Updates etc.)

Perhaps out of the box I could get Tweaking .com to work on it remotely via my laptop with a HDD connection

So the C:/ tries to take over the laptop when I connect it (powered) to the Laptop for troubleshooting and software help. I want to run Tweaking on the HDD but I can't get that far in the process, as the Laptop becomes more of a slave than the device I want to work with.

Place the drive back into the original pc & once it’s booted into Windows try running an in-place repair using the Windows installation media. If it fails then the drive is going bad.
You could also run crystal disk info on the drive to check its health.

All HDD are out of the box only drive back in is C: not getting out of restart mode, the black screen with the endless circle.
    We'll figure this ont.

Thanks again G~B! Yes that is the current plan for the short term.

If C isn’t booting into Windows at all then you can try connecting the drive to another pc via a cable or HD caddy & test the drive that way. Otherwise I’m suspecting the drive has failed or is about to fail.

I've connected the drive to my laptop but it only opens as folders and files.
I'm not sure how to get it to show up as a unit so I can run tweaking etc. on it...
Have you got any suggestions for that idea? :)

Under Computer it should show a drive letter, you can run disk check by right clicking on the drive & choosing check disk. Any other programs should show the drive & allow you to run the tool on it.
