I can't understand what you mean with this.On your keyboard you have (,?!.),so please use them.
Why you want to reinstall your PC?
DO you have problems ,and your PC won't boot up?
Is your OS CD damage,so it won't boot?

sorry talking on the ps3 annoying to type with controller. Uhm I'm trying to reinstall and format my other partion drive d. I already formatted drive c but I didn't know what to do at the time because it wouldn't let me format the d drive. So now when I boot up the computer it turns on and then has all its start up information. then it goes to a black screen asking me to " remove disks or other media. " then under it says " press any key to restart " i do that and nothing works it just pops up again. is there some way I can make a new partition and then install or do I need to use another computer to load xp onto the hd? did that clear anything up?

Do you install your OS on C or D drive?
The reason I ask you it's cos sometimes the black screen can comeup if you install your OS on wrong partition. When you install OS that time you can create C and D partitions,so when you go in Windows when you press D,it will automaticaly ask you if you want to format this disc.

You should get a message saying press any key to boot from CD. It can be quick so watch for it.

If I understand you right then yes the system disk would be the windows XP disk and that should work.

If not put your XP disk in the drive and shut down your computer. Restart it and tap or hold the F12 key while it is booting. Hopefully this will take you to a boot menu screen. On the boot menu screen choose #3 to boot from the IDE drive. This should boot from the XP CD and you can start your install.

all that did was take me to th network boot and then back to the missing os screen again.

Do you have two copies of XP installed right now. One on C: and one on D:?

Try getting back into your BIOS and set the boot order to hard drive C:

both the c and drive have been formatted so I'm lost. so nothing is on either drives thats why I'm guessing its saying missing os thats why I am trying to get my current copy of xp on one of them.

When you say formatted do you mean you have 2 empty partitions. C and D and you have no OS installed on either one?

Is your drive C completely empty of all files? You should be able to boot from the CD or Floppys if it is clean.

    Try this:

    http://www.majorgeeks.com/Dariks_Boot_and_Nuke_d4596.html

It will wipe the drive and you should be able to boot from the CD and Re-partition the drive.

I'm not sure if DOS would work you would have to copy the set up from the CD to the drive

okay I got a new copy of xp professional but it goes through the partitioning screen ask where I want xp I delete my old c & D partions and mad a new c drive bu t when it says reboot and setup will continue it doesn't it goes back through the same screen nothing new.

If it goes through the entire set up process and then says set up will continue after reboot you have to change your BIOS to boot from the hard drive where the new partition has been created or you will be stuck in a loop.

  27. kakashishozu

    kakashishozu Private E-2

I did that but its still stuck at a black screen another thing is that I tried my dads hdd and it says can not open partition c and some other errors, could something be wrong with my motherboard?

Your dad's hard drive will not operate with your hardware if he has an OS installed on it.

What is the make/model number of your computer? You can go to the maker's web site and download some tools to check your hard drive and board out if you can use your dad's computer.

Also when you said it goes through the set up process how far do you get? Does it complete the setup and ask you too reboot?

  29. kakashishozu

    kakashishozu Private E-2

yes but this computer was built with parts I don't know where they came from. the setup completes the first part reboots and then do nothing to go to the actual installation of xp professional.

See if you can boot into safe mode. If you can it will give you a choice. Try booting windows normally. This should give you a choice for what operating system you want to boot. Hopefully you will see the option to boot the XP Pro you just installed.
