Trying To Locate Webcam Splash PNG

I have a webcam installed on my computer. If I load a chat program without my webcam on, it displays a splash screen stating to "Please Launch The Webcam...etc." I want to replace this splash screen with a custom PNG file that I will create in Photoshop (IE: something that might say "loading" or "please wait").

I have checked ALL the folders (both in the Program Files and hidden folders) of the brand of camera I have. I found the PNG file of the splash screen that is normally displayed, however, editing it does not change it in the chat program. This leads me to to believe the actual splash screen is stored somewhere else on my system, possibly having to do with Internet Explorer.

Does anyone know where else these types of files would be stored on your system when it comes to a webcam? I need to locate it to edit them.

    Hi Tech,

Use search set to show all *.PNG programs and see if it shows up. That failing search for any file with the verbage you know is in the file - will take a long time.

    Maybe?

it could be coded into the program itself, maybe resourcehacker can help.

Yes, however the problem is I'm not 100% sure of what file name or even extension it would use. I'm assuming PNG as that's what format all the other graphics are, but to search for every PNG on the system would be to numerous. I was hoping there was a general location where webcam info is store that interacts with IE besides the default program directory. Do you know of any place like this in Windows 7?

    @ foogoo

This was my assumption as well. To the point above, it would make sense that the reason the changes don't take effect is that it's not really using those files but the integrated ones. Is there any way to verify this?

    Hi,

Searching for an Extension would not take very long especialyl PNG But as you say may not yield anything. Searching for the verbage "Please launch the Webcam" may get it but will take an awful long time.

I did try a simple search for the "Please Start" text with no new results (just the other PNG I've tried to edit with no results). I also tried searching .PNG file extension but that resulted in over 25,000 results, so that didn't work.

I did try installing this and I found a PNG folder in the .exe. I extracted it but now I have a file with an .rc extension. I'm assuming that the textures may be contained inside this file, but how would I open this and be able to edit them and re-inject them back into the .exe file?

Anyone know how to open these .rc extensions in the .exe?

    Hi,

If you give a link to the particular webcam program you are using it will be easier for someone to take a look at it.

I don't know much more than universal extractor for looking at programs but someone might be able to play around with finding the png.

I'm actually in the process of changing it out so I'm not 100% sure which new cam I'll go with. I'm still working off the old software just to test though.

I've been looking up the .RC file extensions on the internet and I think you might open it with Microsoft Visual Studio? Is that correct? Can it be done in a program like Photoshop?

I was thinking if you gave a link to the manufacturer's website for the software program containing the png file, I or someone else could try unpacking it and possibly finding the png. After finding the png it would be a matter of figuring out if there was a way to repack the software with the new png.

I'm just thinking out loud. I don't know if I could do anything useful with it or not.

    I see. Thanks anyway.

Do you happen to know anything about how to open the .rc file type? Even if I did and was able to edit it, how would I "reinject" it back into the .exe file. Is that a simple process?

It is actually coding in the program you are using. There is no external graphic that states this term.

Thanks for the reply. Just to be clear, are you referring to the .rc file type (meaning there is no external graphic program that can edit it) or that the .PNG file of the loading screen is coded into the .exe?

Again, it is coded into the program for the software you are using. If you want, I can say it again, again, again.

First off, what the hell does that even mean? You sound like a damn robot. Of course I'm going to ask you to clarify a statement like this. We been through pages and pages of posts with other users suggestions on how to extract these encoded files and possibly edit them, and you come along with such an arbitrary answer that really doesn't make much sense in the content of what we're trying to do. So yes, if you don't explain yourself, you'll have to do it again and again and again.

However, I've also come to the conclusion that this is just more trouble than it's worth and really not worth the effort. I can just live with the current loading screen as is.

Thanks for the info from all the :major staff.
