Trying to reformat and install windows xp...

but everytime I get to the part where you hit f8 to agree I get the blue screen of death that says.. A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.

I am on my laptop trying to get help with this problem and any help would be appreciated. Also I am not able to get to windows an the computer cause it says something about missing a windows system 32 config file or something.

If it says it shut down to prevent damage, then its overheating (most likely) Make sure you have it on a table or something hard and not like a blanket or carpet or sumthin otherwise it will block the vents and cause it to overheat

 

You need to go into bios and set cd rom as first boot, then it will boot from the cd. ed

 

It's booting from cd, as I said I get all the way to the agreement screen where you hit f8 before the problem comes.

 

I only mentioned the part about system config file in case someone wanted me to try and fix the problem from windows, was just trying to save time as that is not a option.

 

I cant see why it would do that at that particular spot, is this a genuine windows cd?

 

Windows always says this on a BSOD, iirc.

Yes it's a gebuine windows cd. All i want to do is partition and reformat, can you help with that?
