    Okay here i go.

I downloaded 2 different regeistry cleaners from here and they install okay, but when i try to run them, they shut down and i get message they have stopped running. I have that microsoft protector thing that shuts down programs if they may harm my computer. What is going on? Is there something that i am missing, maybe like that i need to disable the protector or something? Please let me know. I have always trusted majorgeeks and gotten a lot great stuff in the past. I am running an Acer Aspire with windows Vista.
    Thanks:)

Because the programs are trying to access the registry, the Vista security thingy 'thinks' the reg cleaners are bad programs. Try right clicking the programs, then select "Run as Administrator" and see if that helps. Personally, I'm not a huge fan of registry cleaners. Somehow, a myth was started saying that you MUST clean the registry all the time and that a dirty registry will cause massive slowness, crashes, and make your life miserable. I run a reg cleaner on my home PC maybe twice a year, and I've never had my PC get faster or more stable after cleaning the registry. True- it's better to have a clean registry versus a 'non-clean' registry, but if you have PC problems, cleaning the registry is not likely to fix these problems, and may make them worse if the wrong things are cleaned. One of the safest cleaners IMO is CCleaner. I use it regularly at work to clean both the reg and the hard drive, and have never had it remove the wrong thing from the registry, which is not something I can say for MANY other cleaners out there..... good luck!

    Thanks so much DLB.
I have used CCleaner on the Dell tower that i had and it always worked fine for me. I just wasn't sure with a Laptop. I wanted to run a cleaner as i had some viruses show up and i wanted to be sure they didn't leave any doo doo behind (so to speak). Thanks again for responding quickly and efficiently.
