Trying To Update An Older Apple.

I just had an Apple Power book G4 given to me. It's running Mac OS X version 10.4.11, and 1.25G of SD RAM.
I have tried to download updates to the software and I couldn't because the version of OS X was too old. What version may I update this computer to? Or is there another browser supported by Mac's like this that would work? Thanks.

 

it appears that tiger aka 10.4.11 is best for that computer, though people have forced 10.5 onto them.
for software, you can go here : http://www.powerpcsoftware.com/
currently, apple does all software updates through its online store. but you can always download directly from apple. go to the apple site and search for
mac_os_x_10_4_11_combo_update_ppc_
and you should be able to find all downloadable updates for tiger.

I had an eMac with OSX 10.3.9 and could have gone to 10.4.11 but, in order to run 10.5 on it my CPU had to be running at 863 MHz (to even install 10.5). Mine ran at 700 MHz.

I could have removed 3 resistors on the mobo to bring the CPU up to 900 MHz and things would have remained stable (any higher clock speed would have resulted in overheating).

What's the clock speed of your CPU?
