    Hey, I'm trying to help my friend veiw his hidden files on windows. Normally this is done usng folder options, however there is no option to do so. I had a quick think and presumed that this will also be changable in the registry and sure enough under the directory "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced" a variable called "hidden" was set to 2.. I thought this was a little odd as I presumed only 0 and 1 would be valid. Anyway, after chaning this value to 1 there is still no affect after restart.. Any ideas? :confused:

    There is indeed an option to view hidden files and folders in Windows Explorer, under Tools -> Folder Options -> View tab -> Hidden Files and Folders (choose Show). Also uncheck, at least temporarily, "Hide extensions for known file types" and "Hide protected operating system files". Recommend you are absolutely sure you know what you are doing, and that you also reverse those changes after you're done.

    Run Notepad.

    Paste the following lines into notepad.

    Code:
    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced\Folder\Hidden]
    "Type"="group"

    Save the file as fixhidden.reg on your desktop (note the extension .reg , this is important, in the notpad save dialog make sure All Files is selected below the filename box otherwise it will save as txt)

    Close Notepad

    Double click the file created on your desktop. Click yes to the dialog that asks it you want to merge.

    Open a new explorer window and see if the option is there now.

    Let me know how you get on

    Thats the same fix as I gave Matacumbie. But I prefer not to ask people to go into the registry unless I really have to.
