    I have a Toshibe l-300 with TSST CDDVD TS-633a and my device manager says it can"t load driver because the driver may be corrupt. I have looked and I cant seem to find a driver that will get it up and running again. Could someone please teach me how to go about finding right drivers when these problems occur. Went to Toshiba site and tried to to get to TSSTCorp site but I couldn't find the right drivers. Thank you to any and all that offer advise or links.

    Hi,
    Can you elaberate on the issue that you are having?? is your dvd drive working or not?? if your system is not recognising your dvd drive try removing the drive, (it should only be held in by a screw on the base of your laptop),start up without it in then shut down and replace the drive then boot back up, your system will now see the drive and any driver that it needs will auto install. I hope that this helps resolve your issue.

    Try this also......

    Follow these steps to resolve your cd dvd issue. It’s mostly caused by an error in the registry.
    Before you proceed, create a backup of your registry.
    Manual steps to back up the registry in Windows XP
    1. Click Start, click Run, type %SystemRoot%\system32\restore\rstrui.exe, and then click OK.
    2. On the Welcome to System Restore page, click Create a restore point, and then click Next.
    3. On the Create a Restore Point page, type a name for the restore point and then click Create
    4. After the restore point has been created, click Close.
    Note If System Restore is turned off, you receive a message that asks whether you want to turn on System Restore now. Click Yes. Then, in the System Properties dialog box, click to clear the Turn off System Restore check box, click OK, and then repeat this step.

    The next step is as follows:
    First and foremost, go to My Computer; right click on properties, hardware, and then Device Manager.
    Right click on the CD DVD drive and uninstall it, then click OK, then close.

    Next Step:
    1) Close all open programs

    2) Click on Start, Run, and type REGEDIT and press Enter

    3) Click on the plus signs (+) next to the following folders

    * HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
    * SYSTEM
    * CurrentControlSet
    * Control
    * Class
    * {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

    4) This folder is the DVD/CD-ROM Drive Class Description in the registry. Look for any of the following names in the right hand column.

    * UpperFilters
    * LowerFilters
    * UpperFilters.bak
    * LowerFilters.bak

    5) If any of the above keys shown in step 4 are listed, right-click on them and choose Delete

    6) After deleting the keys, close the Registry Editor

    7) Reboot
    your computer

    This will remedy most instances of cd/dvd drive errors.

    Thank you for reply. Tried possible fix and computer tells me that it has found new hardware and then says it has finished loading new software for new hardware. But dvd still doesn't work. Won't read or write. In device manager it has yellow exclaimation point next to listing of my dvd player. With the same error message of possible corrupted files. At one time I could play dvds and for a short time I could burn dvd. It stopped burning dvds awhile back. But that stopped and I never messed with it since it could still read them. Now it won't do anything at all when dvd is put in just spins for a long time. Any ideas? Thanks again for your time.

    Ok last reply was written in response to your first possible fix. This is reply to your LAST fix. I tried the that fix before, but tried again after your suggestion. Same outcome as before sees new hardmare and installs drivers and still no workey. Same error in device manager with same message about corrupted files. Any ideas? Again thank you for your time.

    Hi,
    Ok lets see if we can use windows to reinstall the driver....

    go into your device manager and on the dvd device that has the yellow ! mark, rightclick uninstall driver. shut down. reboot. go back to DM and scan for hardware changes follow the prompts to reinstall the driver.

    One more thing is ... when was the last time that you did any "inhouse" anti virus/malware scanning as these type of issues can make your machine act like this also!! I would advise you run through the virus/malware cleaning procedure here... http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=35407 ...follow the steps for your type of OS (xp/vista or 7). you may not have any issues but at least you will know you have a clean machine!!

    You may also be looking at buying a new dvd drive for your machine as it sounds as though its bit the dust !!!:cry!!!.....

    hope this helps!! :major

    Well did all you said to try and still doesn't work. I even did the whole malware removal guide. Computer has a clean bill of health. Just had some cookies in it, otherwise nothing was found. I guess I go shopping for new drive. Could you recommend one that doesn't use these same drivers as I have had nothing but trouble with these. Thank you very much for your time. Have a great day or night whatever the case may be. CHEERS!

    Hi

    Just jumping in quickly on this as Ian.T is superb at driver issues, but I wish to know what Windows version and Service Pack you using?

    I would generally suggest that you re-install your Chipset Driver, not knowing the OS version that's hard to give you a download link but look on Toshiba's support site for your model laptop and it will list the Chipset driver, so install and then re-boot and try the CD drive again.

    Sadly if your drive is not picked up by Windows then other applications will have a hard tie acquiring it also, so not as easy as just suggesting a new application.

    I would suggest booting to Safe Mode (F8 at boot) and see if you can use your CD Drive.
