tubo tax error

i down loaded a version of turbo tax 2008 and started the installation but something went wrong and it didnt install correctly .i tried to remove it from the ad remove add remove program section of the control panel and nothing happens. i only have a icon on the desktop and a file in program files but every time i try to open it it will try to install and then comes up with an error in a new box which it reads "a version of turbo tax 2008 is already installed. you need to remove it before you can install this version to remove turbo tax,use add remove program on the control panel ". ive tried every thing i could and no help.i tried to restore to a date before the installation and it wont restore .i also tried to remove whaterver i have that contains turbo tax with revo uninstaller and still no help .can anyone help

 

So, the program appears to be installed but won't open, right? And, you can't uninstall it, right?

Did you have a restore point prior to installing TurboTax? What happens when you try to restore?

 

that is correct .it apperars to be installed (at least that is what the new version of turbo tax 2008 believes) but its not ,and my comp. wont let me restore to a date before the t/t was installed it says restore failed no change was done to the comp , btw revo uninstaller removed what it found of t/t and it still wont let me install it ,it continues to say the same thing as my previous post

 

I suggest you install CCleaner and run it's Windows scan and it's Registry scan. Tell it to remove all items it finds. When you run it's registry scan, it will ask you whether you want to backup the registry for Fixing the items found; create a backup and the proceed to fix all items.

Now, with your anti-virus software disabled, try reinstalling TurboTax.

You're welcome! I had to install TT for my dad for years and got very familiar with the various errors. He had an old machine that never made the install simple. Intuit has pretty good resources to help get things working, eventually. I think they prepare themselves for all the people that begin the installation process on April 13th, like my father. Not that he ever filed by the 15th he at least had the program updated and running by then, anyway.
