I have a WGR614 v9 Netgear router and if my laptop becomes inoperable and I wish to have more security I was thinking of turning off the broadcast or transmission of the router but still use it for a firewall.
Do you know either how to do this or what terms, or place, I am looking for in the router to do so?
    Thank you

    Go here: http://kb.netgear.com/app/products/model/a_id/2591
Pull up the "WGR614v9 User Manual". See page 2-10 on "Viewing Advanced Wireless Settings" and look at the checkbox option to "Enable Wireless Router Radio". That should be what you're looking for to disable wireless. The "Enable SSID Broadcast" is at the same location.
