is it a pirated version of office 2003 or a backup of your legal copy?
if its pirated we won't have anything to do with it, but if its legal then theres something gone wrong with the burn maybe
i think you can turn autorun off in the registry somewhere...

Or how about simply from the AutoPlay tab of the Properties of the drive in My Computer, where you can customize it according to the content of various discs?

tweak ui sounds good - i tried dougs option but the type of a program disc didn't relate to any of the options . . .

what about the freezing - - - this disc makes my computer freeze by running about 80% of the time - other 20% it installs til it has to register the file types and then freezes again - - anything i can do to help this? install in safe mode?

computer freezes when turned on for a while too - i copme back to a frozen screensaver most times after a long day - requires a hard shut off . . . any ideas

Contact M$ for a replacement copy of your original CD. Maybe the copy wasn't perfect, after all. Bazza

This sounds like a typical RAM problem, single or multiple sticks either a compatibility issue with each other (if you have more than 1) with the mobo or simply the RAM is bad.
The other possibility is corrupt OS files ( even due to bad sectors/bad HardDisk)...
Error reading the CD-ROM could be due to bad CD media as bigbazza stated or due to bad CD drive even...

so how might i narrow down the problem?

is there a program i could run in order to check the sectors of the hardrive? or to clean up the boot process?

btw - this computer is brand spankin new - like 3 days old - had the disk for my other system

i would like some reccmendations of steps to take most of all . . .

thank you fellas for your help so far - perspective is priceless

This Reg hack is taken from annoyances .org -use at your own risk (though it worked well for me) and back up your registry.
    * Run the Registry Editor (REGEDIT.EXE).
    * Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Cdrom.
    * Double-click the Autorun value, and type 0 for its value. (If it's not there, create it by selecting Edit -> New -> DWORD Value, and typing "Autorun" for its name.)
    * You may have to log out and then log back in for this change to take effect.

    * Note: With this solution, Windows will no longer be notified when you insert a new CD. To make sure the correct icon and title for the current CD are displayed in My Computer and Explorer, press F5 to refresh the window.
