Turning off Startup Programs

    Hi,
    My question is startup programs,I have a program I did not want to start when I boot up so I went to Administrative Tools then Services and switch it from Automatic to Manual. ( Correct ) Now should I un-tick the box in msconfig startups or using CCleaner disable it in startups.

    Hi

    Dont use msconfig or CCleaner, but use StartupCPL (standalone version works in Windows 7, the installer version does nto) or AutoRuns as CCleaners manager still uses msconfig.

    Personally if I have a startup I dont want I always delete it perminently, but remember some applications when they update add them back, so always check again. BUT if you dont wish to delete using one of the apps above is good to disable them

    And be careful messing with services, that you mentioned.

    There is a very good tutorial on these at www.blackviper.com.

    Use the "safe" column, I've never had a problem with using the advice from there.

    I have used the list at blackviper.com without any problems.
    I think its a very good resource.

    You can also look at the info at BleepingComputer:

    How To Use the Startup Database

    They recommend that you download and install MG: Autoruns

    This is what I have been using to manage startups and it works very well.
    I suggest that you particularly click the 'Logon' tab and the 'Boot Execute' tab
    to see what is loading under those headings.

    This is the first place I go to check out some program or service that I have a question about.
