I tried another forum about a month ago for this but no one ever responded so I figured I'd try this BETTER forum for a resolution.

I have a Geforce 4 TI-4200 8x AGP with an S-video out and have been using it to hook up to my Sony Trinitron TV to watch movies. In the past everything has worked fine but recently my powersupply went bad, crashed a HD, and I had to start from scratch. Now when I try to hook up my tv through the s-video it begins to display fine (through startup) until the point of the windows xp login. At that point there is nothing but disortion/crazy lines. Whats going wrong here and how can I fix it? I hooked up my monitor at the same time for a dual display to try to help but the TV is still acting weird. Here is the kicker though. My old config before I lost everything did not have SP2 installed. Now upgraded from XP Pro w/SP1 to XP Pro Corp w/SP2 it no longer works.

    System Configuration:
    2.4 Ghz P4 w/512 MB RAM
OS: Windows XP Pro Corp w/SP2
    Video: Latest Nforce drivers
Powersupply: Upgraded to new 430 watt Thermaltake

    Thanks, any help is appreciated.

Man talk about pressure :) ,its obviously a driver problem as the video drivers are loaded around the same time as the xp screen,so I would get the latest drivers from nvidia, download driver cleaner pro from MG/driver tools, run the app "follow the instructions in the readme to the letter, this is the only surefire way to remove the older troublesome drivers",then install the latest set from nvidia.com

with your monitor and tv jacked in,on your monitor go,Rclick desktop, properties, settings, advanced, gforce 4,nview,detect displays, select dual, then device adjustment and adjust the tv regional settings and such to correct the picture :)

Thanks for the suggestion of the driver cleaner. That may help fix it. I do remember on the windows update site it had some old bogus version of nvidia drivers that I never installed and always stuck to the latest from nvidia. I did install the latest version from nvidia when I was trouble shooting but maybe those old ones that SP2 put on may still be hangin around causing trouble. I try it out and come back if it doesn't.

PS. Turst me, no pressure. You guys here have one of the best forums I've ever been to.

Reinstalling the drivers should do the trick. Once you do that, you can also try TVTool - I used this program when I had my GeForce4TI and is compatible with all nVidia cards. It simplifies the process soooo much and adds on so much finctionality as well. Once setup correctly, you can just right click an avi file and select play on tv and it would shift the signal to the tv and shift it back to the monitor once the movie is done. lots of other configuration options as well - doesnt seem to work with my 6600GT though :-(

if the driver situation did not work out for you.
I had a similar problem when my power supply went out on my computer.
TV out worked perfectly fine before the supply went out on a cheap s-video cable. But after i replaced my power supply the picture on the tv had all of this extra interference. I had to go out and buy one of those monster type cables, however, don't get monster since they are more expensive. Any cable with extra shielding will do i believe.

    Hope that helps
