TV to PC to TV ???

okay...

problem...how do i (deep breath) transfer a video (television taping) to my computer, so i can edit it, and then send it back to the video so i can record what i have edited.

what hardware do i need (besides a vcr :0)

what i have..

AMD Athlon(tm) XP 2100+
NVIDIA GeForce4 Ti 4200 with AGP8X
XP
Leadtek WinFast nVidia CR18D/G m/board
512 ddr ram

 

i dunno, but i'm planning doing that, except copying from vcr, editing a bit, not much u can edit cept for length and stuff, but then burn it on dvd. i'm not planning on getting any hardware specifically for that except a LeadTek tv tuner card. i hope that'll work

as far as I know, you need a video capture device to transfer from a VCR.

firewire ones are available and should be faster, but get pricey.

 

As long as your VCR has a RF Modulator on it (an aerial out coax) you should be able to tune the card into the vcr. But it wont be great quality.

 

The problem here is that you want to go back to the VCR, you'll need a card that is capable of ouputing back to analog. most of the cheaper tv tuner cards are input only. you'll be looking at an All in wonder or at least a "PVR" type of card like one of the PVR series from Hauppage.

there are other offerings from other companies, but that should give you an idea. The key feature you'll need is the TV out ability to go back to your VCR. I would buy the hauppage just because then you could turn it into a tivo using mythtv at a later time when you are done with your video editing.

the tv tuner card i am going to get has rca inputs, so there's no probs with bad reception, and then i'm gonna put it on dvd. so no probs there either. http://www.i-tech.com.au/products/item1697.asp
