I recently bought a tv tuner intending to use it as a DVR. it hasn't come in yet, so i didn't try testing it, but after doing some research on it i'm starting to realize that it wont get ALL of the channels that are available with cable.

pretty much everything i read says the tv tuner i bought can't read encrypted channels. i understand the concept of needing a cable box to do the decryption so my question is.....

could i connect the cable coming out of the cablebox into my tv tuner. i would think the signal is already decrypted at that point. instead of going to my tv (which i guess has its own tuner) it will go to the tv tuner in my pc. would that work??

I think it has to be a DVB tuner. Then you can get some programes from the internet that can decrypt the channels.I cant remember the name of the progs but just do a search and a bit of reading on some forums and you are bound to see something about them.
